PROCESS INNOVATION HIGHLY COMMENDED: AMPHORA CONSULTING SERVICE RESERVOIR ASSET MANAGEMENT Boosting the resilience of critical water infrastructure
Amphora Consulting was recognised with highly commended in the Process Innovation category for its Service Reservoir Asset Management, redefining how water companies assess and manage ageing service reservoirs. Traditionally reliant on five-yearly visual inspections, reservoirs are often repaired too early or too late, wasting resources and shortening asset life. Transforming the way concrete infrastructure is managed, the innovation integrates rapid non-destructive testing with a predictive service life model, delivering £2.97m in annual savings, cutting 280 tonnes of CO₂ and securing reliable clean water storage for 1.8 million people. The judging panel was impressed by the technical complexity of the project which combines rapid inspection, laboratory testing and predictive modelling into a single, repeatable workflow. Using a new dye indicator technique, it identifies leaching damage to concrete reservoirs quickly and safely. Adopted by NI Water for 370 reservoirs, the process provides reliable, repeatable and scalable insights that enable evidence-based decision-making, delivering greater value for money, extending asset life and ensuring resilience for critical water infrastructure.

PROCESS INNOVATION WINNER: NORTHSTONE MATERIALS CEVO+ WIRELESS CONCRETE MONITORING SYSTEM Accelerating the shift to sustainable, data-driven construction
Northstone Materials scooped the overall Process Innovation Award for its CEVO+ Wireless Concrete Monitoring System, which streamlines construction workflows, improves safety and supports optimisation of low-carbon mixes. CEVO+ is an AI-powered system that digitises concrete strength validation on site, modernising quality control and accelerating the shift to sustainable, data-driven construction. Embedded CEVO+ sensors monitor temperature and strength development in real time with data transmitted to a cloud platform. Real-time strength data from in-situ elements based on actual curing conditions enables earlier formwork removal and load application, shortening construction timelines. Offering greater accuracy and responsiveness across all projects, it becomes even more powerful when paired with CEVO’s lower carbon mixes. The CEVO+ system, managed by Mattest, provides instant insights, flags anomalies and supports better decision-making. Northstone is among the first in Northern Ireland to adopt this integrated approach, helping maximise use of low-carbon concrete while maintaining programme and quality. It transforms concrete verification into a proactive, data-driven process that supports decarbonisation.
