LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT GORDON ELLIS Former GM recognised for technical ability & leadership skills
An integral figure in Mattest becoming one of the leading commercial construction material testing companies in Ireland, Gordon Ellis is also widely respected for his contribution to the wider concrete industry. Having graduated from Ulster University in 1983, he first worked as a civil engineer for McKitrick Contracts. A pioneer in ready-use concrete, he completed a Diploma in Advanced Concrete Technology in 1986. Gordon has been an active member of the Institute of Concrete Technology, The Institute of Quarrying and the Concrete Society, where he was Chair of the Northern Ireland Region, and is highly thought of for his technical ability and leadership skills. His main passion was for the business he developed, Mattest. He grew the business from humble beginnings in Duncrue Street, Belfast in 1991, expanding to Dublin and Cork in the mid-1990s and then to Galway. Mattest became one of the leading commercial construction material testing companies in Ireland, working on major infrastructure projects such as the Boyne Bridge, Luas Line and Belfast Transport Hub. After over 30 years as general manager, he retired from the company in 2023.
