ULSTER UNIVERSITY OPTOMETRY CLINIC, COLERAINE PROJECT PROFILE
THE CONTRACTOR HAS TRANSFORMED A FIRE-DAMAGED EYE CLINIC INTO AN ELEVATED SPACE SUPPORTING ACADEMIC DEVELOPMENT AND THE CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE… BELL CONTRACTS DELIVERS A MODERN PUBLIC-FACING CAMPUS CLINIC
Bell Contracts was appointed as main contractor for the major refurbishment of a block at Ulster University which had sustained damage in a fire. Based at its Coleraine campus, UU’s Optometry Clinic is a leader in clinical education and research. Offering eight fully-equipped sight testing rooms, the clinic is open to the public throughout the year with patient examinations performed by final-year optometry students under supervision or its professional staff outside the teaching semester. Architect McAdam Design reimagined the space to give a high street feel aimed at elevating both public engagement and the academic experience. A new entrance establishes an outward presence and identity on campus,
leading into a retail area and dedicated consultation and inspection rooms. Bell Contracts completed full internal refurbishments of the clinic’s shop front, clinical spaces, and digital services and digital teaching labs. The contractor also delivered a full internal refurbishment of the Health & Life Sciences department’s wet/dry lab alongside a partial roof replacement. The laboratory teaching space is supported by a dedicated preparation room, chemical store and clean-down area. Enhancing the lab space with new high-spec fume and chemical storage cupboards and quality Trespa benches, the upgrade also extended to new stainless-steel facilities supplied by Stephens Catering for the prep room
