The Northern Ireland Safety Group (NISG) Annual Conference & Exhibition, and Awards Dinner, took place on November 6 at La Mon Hotel & Country Club, Belfast. This year’s conference theme, ‘Health & Safety for All…’, reflected NISG’s ongoing mission to promote an inclusive, proactive and forward-thinking approach to workplace health, safety and wellbeing across Northern Ireland. Delegates were offered a full programme of presentations, expert sessions and an extensive exhibition showcasing innovative safety technologies, services and products. A section on security responsibilities for employers offered insights into Martyn’s Law and emerging security obligations, with a presentation by Figen Murray OBE, mother of Martyn Hett, who was tragically killed in the 2017 Manchester Arena bombing. Figen has lobbied relentlessly to see Martyn’s Law in statute. The Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act 2025, known
as Martyn’s Law, received Royal Assent on April 3, 2025. Other topics covered included: • An update and strategic viewpoint from the Health and Safety Executive for Northern Ireland • Northern Ireland Ambulance Service addressing violence at work and its development of practical prevention strategies • Cybersecurity considerations for health, safety and HR professionals • Utilising occupational hygiene and occupational health monitoring to drive improvements in workplace health • Implementing and improving dynamic risk assessment in modern workplaces Delegates also benefited from health check stations, networking opportunities, and an engaging exhibition environment, with hands-on demonstrations provided during the day. The evening culminated with the Annual NISG Awards Dinner, recognising
outstanding contributions to health and safety across Northern Ireland with a presentation to the local winners of the 2025 NISO/NISG All Ireland Safety Awards. These cross-border awards highlight excellence in safety management, innovation, leadership and team achievement, celebrating individuals and organisations that have demonstrated exceptional commitment to fostering safer, healthier workplaces. Dr Bryan Monson, Deputy Chief Executive HSENI, said, “The Northern Ireland Safety Group continues to play a vital role in promoting health, safety, and wellbeing across all sectors. Their conference offers a valuable opportunity to share ideas, learn from experts and strengthen our collective commitment to safer workplaces.” For information on joining NISG, email Secretary Nicola McCracken at E: info@nisg.org.uk
