What Are the Symptoms of Hip, Knee & Leg Pain?

While leg pain is noticeable by a slew of symptoms, several stick out. Aching or stiffness around the hip, groin, back or thigh may be a sign of deeper problems. A decreased range of motion can also be a sign which may later result in hip, knee or leg pain. Sometimes, inactivity can contribute to immobility—and later pain. Ingredients

• 1 orange • 3 cups water • 2 (11.3 to 12 oz) cans pear nectar • 1 tbsp honey (optional) • 4 inches stick cinnamon

• 1 tsp whole cloves • 6 tea bags • Small orange slices, halved (optional) • Stick cinnamon (optional for serving)

Instructions Using a vegetable peeler, remove three wide strips of peel from the orange; set peel aside. Juice the orange into a large saucepan. Add the water, pear nectar and honey (if using) to orange juice in saucepan. For spice bag: Place the 4 inches of stick cinnamon, the cloves and the orange peel strips in the center of a 6-inch square of double-thickness, 100%-cotton cheesecloth. Bring corners together and tie with 100%-cotton kitchen string. Add spice bag to pear nectar mixture. Bring mixture to boiling; reduce heat. Cover and simmer for 10 minutes. Remove from heat. Add tea bags; cover and let stand for 5 minutes. Remove tea bags and spice bag; discard. Serve in warmmugs. If desired, float orange slices on top of individual servings and serve with additional stick cinnamon.

Staff Spotlight NANCY MANCHESTER, MSPT Nancy completed a Masters of Science in Physical Therapy at Boston University in 1997. She earned her Bachelors of Science in Exercise Physiology from the University of Mass, graduating Magna Cum Laude. Nancy has completed internships at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Sports Conditioning Center in Brookline, Promina Kennestone Hospital in Georgia, and Everett Rehabilitation Services in Everett, Massachusetts. Nancy’s clinical experiences while at Parkland Rehabilitation Services included working with patients with orthopedic concerns, those recuperating from total or partial knee and hip replacements, those recovering from shoulder, back, and ankle surgery, and those with osteoarthritis and fibromyalgia. At Massachusetts General Hospital, Nancy worked in orthopedic, medical, chest, and surgical settings. During her three years with the Brockton Visiting Nurse Association, she worked with patients in home care settings, evaluating and

treating those with pulmonary, cardiac, neurological, medical, surgical, and orthopedic issues. Nancy also provided home safety training to patients and their families. At Balance Physical Therapy, Nancy works with the full spectrum of patients. Her ongoing interests include manual therapy and women’s health. Through her continuous education, Nancy has enhanced her expertise in treating shoulder injuries, as well as treatment of the spine and core stabilization. Nancy loves having a hands-on role in helping patients recover from pain and injuries. She enjoys helping patients improve their functionality and showing patients how to reclaim their independence and overall lives. She believes that an important part of her role as a physical therapist is to educate her patients about their bodies so that they are empowered to further their own healing. When Nancy isn’t working with patients, she enjoys skiing, snowshoeing, walking, hiking, yoga, weight training, group classes, and spending time with her husband and three children in Windham, NH.
