BUSINESS BUILDING
A Business Built on Trust The benefit of building a Melaleuca business as a beauty professional is that the trust is already there. “Beauty professionals create long- lasting, lifelong friendships,” Meghan Dirk says. “At least 95% of my current clientele are Melaleuca customers. Those of us in the beauty industry become like therapists to our regular clients. My clients trust that when I share my favorite products with them, I’m being genuine.” Abby Tormondson agrees. She feels that it’s important for beauty professionals who are thinking of building a Melaleuca business to leverage the close relationship between client and stylist. “Whether you’re a hairstylist like me or a beauty professional in a different line of work, people come to you because they trust you,” she shares. “And they will trust you with the Melaleuca products you recommend. In the beginning of my Melaleuca business, I was scared to talk
A Clean Approach to Cosmetics
“It’s amazing how many ingredients in our cosmetics and personal hygiene items can adversely affect health,” she says. “I was praying for something to help my client, and then I saw a friend’s Facebook post about nontoxic cosmetics from Sei Bella . Everything aligned perfectly!” A Discount for Everyone Normally clients pay a hefty markup for beauty products sold in a salon. Not so with Melaleuca! “The beauty industry is saturated with high-priced, celebrity-endorsed products that often don’t work very well,” says Erika. “I worked in the retail beauty world for many years, and I know that the cost of shelf space, marketing, and retail rights are all part of the price you’re paying for your products.” Because of this, the affordability of Sei Bella and other Melaleuca products makes a lot of sense to Erika and Clarisa. “Melaleuca doesn’t pay for traditional advertising or shelf space,” adds Clarisa. “They act as both manufacturer and distributor. That saves so much money!” The women receiving Meghan’s brow services are always interested in any Sei Bella products she uses on them, so if they want to order a product like the Honey & Rose Balm to Oil Makeup Eraser , she makes it clear that becoming a Melaleuca Member will give them access to it (along with a ton of other wellness products)—at the very same discount she enjoys. “I’ll do physical comparisons between products so my clients can see the value in Melaleuca,” Meghan explains. “For example, I’ll show them a makeup balm remover that is $30 and a lot smaller in
Erika Martinez first became interested in clean beauty products and wellness in general because she was diagnosed with an adult acne condition at age 21. “Ironically, many mainstream brands fill their products with ingredients that can lead to skin irritation,” she says. “I had to learn to navigate my beauty products in new ways. I was so grateful to find Sei Bella ® and feel confident in a brand that uses safer ingredients.” In addition to cleaning up her makeup routine to promote healthier skin, Erika studied the correlation between gut health and skin health—which is why she incorporates supplements like the Peak Performance Nutrition Pack , CellWise ®, and Hair, Skin & Nails into her routine. “I tell my clients that our health systems are all interconnected,” she says. “Which is why I love offering a whole-body solution like Melaleuca. We have wellness products that target health both externally and internally.”
“My favorite product when I’m on set for a professional photo or video shoot is the translucent Sei Bella ® Pressed Powder . I’m also really impressed with Sei Bella Mascara and the Sei Bella Powder Bronzer . And when I’m grooming men for commercials, I always use the Charcoal & Flower Mattifying Toning Mist .” — ERIKA MARTINEZ, Celebrity Makeup Artist
about it, so I didn’t tell clients about Melaleuca until way later. By the time I had mentioned it to one of them, they would say, ‘You’ve been shopping here for how long and didn’t share these products?’ People need this and want this! Don’t be afraid to own it.”
Erika’s sister Clarisa Ulloa-Martinez began digging into the link between inflammation and cosmetics when one of her clients began suffering from cysts and breakouts.
