Kffi \ sent through the mail, of a Seventh- day Adventist book. “ . . . there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies . . .” (II Peter 2 : 1 ). It was somewhat of a surprise to see an exhibit area in the Prot estant Center occupied by Sweden- borgianism! (The Church of the New Jerusalem). A pamphlet “ Re ligious Offbast” by Earl L. Douglass (Reprinted from Christian Herald. August, 1961) was free to all visi tors. This article, pronounced “ un usually accurate” by the Swedenborg Foundation, gives an unusually con cise account of the life and teach ings of Emanuel Swedenborg. From 1745 “ . . . until his death, (1772) Swedenborg claimed he entered into ‘the world of spirits’ once every sev eral weeks, often daily, and some times several times in a day. He taught that “ God is man—that Jesus Christ the Lord is the one only God. This Lord Jesus is a Divine Man — a man in body, but Jehovah God as to his soul. — Redemption is a sub jection of the hells, the restoration of order in the heavens and the prep aration upon the earth for a new spiritual church. Swedenborg did not hold to the doctrine of blood atone

ment. He insisted that redemption is the activity which frees man’s mind from the power of the hells by means of the entire process of the Lord’s life on earth. The cross was simply the final step in this process. . . Swedenborg accepted only a portion of the Old Testament, and the four Gospels and the Apocalypse only in the New Testament. “ The rest,” he said, “ have no continuous internal sense.” “ Beloved, believe not ever spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world” (I John 4 :1 ). Leaving the Protestant Center, it is only a short distance to the beauti fully-landscaped M orm on Pavilion with its imposing facsimile spires of the Mormon Temple, Salt Lake City, Utah. How alluring, but how deceiv ing, this carefully-planned exhibit! The visitor is given a very cordial welcome immediately upon entering the pavilion, making the unwary, perhaps, feel “at home” amidst the soul-destroying propagation of the Mormon beliefs. One passes through a long room with inviting seating arrangement, if the visitor desires to sit and meditate upon the artis tic murals, on one side the history (continued on page 43)

J. writes her impressions: S e e k in g OUT the Cults at the Fair, one enters the Protestant and Orthodox Center, knowing before hand that Seventh-Day Adventism occupies an exhibit area in this building. Actually, the illumidrama presented here is the most attractive and eye-appealing display in that section of the pavilion. Differing from M o rm on ism and Christian Science, the Seventh-day Adventists have chosen the more subtle ap proach by not displaying Mrs. E. G. White! The visitor is handed a card which can be used to enroll in a free Bible course, or send for a free booklet telling the story of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. The visitor is also invited to fill out a card from which a name is drawn daily to receive, if chosen, a copy, ONEAIM Makes Every Minute Count Total Hour Teaching coordinates your Sunday School program by relating every activity . . . pre-session, worship, instruc tion, expression, and application . . . to the lesson aim.
