A S WE compare the present “ distress of nations” with the inspired prophecies of God concerning things to come, we find that the stage seems to be set for the swiftly approaching world drama at the end of the age. And with thankful hearts we see that, perhaps very soon, our Lord will call the church home. Then after the seven-year rule of the Antichrist, closing with “ the great tribulation” period, the Lord Jesus will return to earth, visibly, bodily, gloriously, to be Israel’s King, as well as Ruler over all the earth. Now we want to see what God says in the thirty- sixth and thirty-seventh chapters of Ezekiel concern ing the national resurrection of Israel and her future glory. The national and political restoration of Israel apparently will be encouraged by the Antichrist for a time. However, in the midst of his reign, that is, after
three and one-half years, he will turn on Israel to destroy her. That will be “ the time of Jacob’s trouble,” to end when Christ will return in glory. ISRAEL’S DISPERSION— GOD’S CHASTISEMENT FOR HER APOSTASY Someone has said that these four chapters of Ezek iel, 36-39, present a great moving picture of Israel— past, present, and future: Israel past, idolatrous and disobedient to God; Israel present, scattered among the nations in chastisement for her sin; Israel future, re stored and blessed in the millennial reign of Christ, her Messiah and King. (See also Rom. 9-11 for another clear outline of Israel past, present, and future.) Read Ezekiel 36:1-23, noting particulary how God reminds Israel that her dispersion among the nations is in chastisement for her sin. Here are a few of the
