LIFE, LOVE, AND LASTING BALANCE THE TREASURE OF A TRUE PARTNER
“I saw that you were perfect, and so I loved you. Then I saw that you were not perfect, and I loved you even more.” — Angelita Lim
Tiffany’s gotten better at not indulging my fixation on the job after hours. At times, when I can’t get work out of my mind, Tiffany will want to chill for the night, sit by the fire, or go out on a date. Although I still struggle with switching off from time to time, I know she approaches the work-life balance the right way. We’re both striving toward the same goal, but she has a much better way of getting there. She’s been my best teacher in living a full and happy life. Tiffany also verbalizes things much better than I do. I was raised to fulfill high expectations, and I sometimes consider someone’s dedication and hard work as a given. As I’ve grown as a business owner and as a husband over the years, I’ve learned it’s not enough to know your partner is doing a great job and looks beautiful every day — you need to tell them that. That’s an ongoing area of improvement for me. Although I may never find the perfect words to express how much I love and respect everything she does and everything she is, those feelings are always in my heart. Even when Tiffany and I get frustrated over something at work or in our home life (or with each other), I know I love her and that we’re going to work it out. She is my partner — and my key to a great life and a great family. Today and every day, I wish you and that special someone in your life much joy and contentment together. May you always be a better person because of them.
In our last newsletter, I wrote about how I had recently celebrated my 10th year as the owner of Campus Commons Physical Therapy. In honor of the most recent Valentine’s Day, I’d like to devote this month’s cover article to the person who helped make this business a reality — and made all my other dreams in life come true. My wife, Tiffany, and I celebrated our 24th anniversary in January. From handling billing and admin to overseeing HR and compliance, she truly is the heartbeat of everything we do here. She was the voice of encouragement and support when I decided to go into business, and she has been a loving and devoted partner through more than two decades of love, highs, lows, parenting, and so much more. I love her even more today than I did on the day we married, and we are in this together. Of course, that doesn’t mean every step we’ve taken together has been easy. There are just as many ups and downs in marriage as in business, and life can become especially challenging when both things overlap and coincide. It takes a lot of patience, understanding, and genuine affection for us to stay on the same page and in the right lane without allowing our personal and professional lives to cross over or allowing the small stuff to bother us. As much as I admire and appreciate everything Tiffany brings to the business, I’m more awed by her ability to switch it off at the end of the day. Over the years, I’ve tried hard to move away from always thinking, “I got work to do! I got work to do!” — even at 10 or 11 at night — and

RAISE CONFIDENT KIDS
4 Tips Every Parent Should Follow
AVOID FORESHADOWING PRAISE WITH NEGATIVITY. This may be difficult for some parents, especially if they’ve had repeated obedience issues. If you’re proud of your child’s game-winning catch, avoid prefacing the statement with “Even though you didn’t cut the grass as I asked …” This can be considered the equivalent of a backhanded compliment, and no one responds well to those. ALIGN THE LEVEL OF PRAISE WITH THE ACCOMPLISHMENT. In other words, don’t overdo it. Parents are their children’s biggest cheerleaders, so it can be challenging to tame your emotions when they win or overcome a fear. This is, of course, at your discretion, but it’s
Praising your child has always been a “tricky” area of parenting. You want to raise your child to be a confident human being while also embodying what it means to be humble and appreciative. So, how do you stay within the bounds of instilling self-assurance without going overboard? While every child is different, several parenting approaches allow you to praise your child’s efforts without enabling arrogance. RECOGNIZE YOUR CHILD’S EFFORT IN ADDITION TO THEIR ACCOMPLISHMENT. As parents, it’s easy to praise your child’s accomplishments without acknowledging all their hard work to achieve them. Suppose your
child won first place in their school’s spelling bee. Instead of praising them for being the best, acknowledge how all their studying paid off. EXPRESS CONFIDENCE IN THEIR ABILITY TO ACHIEVE SUCCESS. Let your child know you’re not only proud of them but also that you know they can achieve their goals. This praise sets the stage for your child to share future goals — for example, making the basketball or cheerleading team.
something to be mindful of. Does winning the season’s first game warrant a big backyard party with all the bells and whistles? Everyone’s parenting styles differ, but instilling values such as believing in oneself, empathy, gratitude, and determination are qualities any parent can nurture in their children for the betterment of themselves and those around them.
Water Wonders THE SECRET BENEFITS OF STAYING HYDRATED We all know that drinking water is important — after all, we can’t live without it — but just how necessary it is to our daily health and happiness may surprise you. According to Harvard Medical School, whether you get water the old- fashioned way or from fruits, vegetables, and other sources, you need to consume enough daily — 15.5 cups for men and 11.5 cups for women — to maintain proper physical and mental health. Here are a few uncommon reasons why following this advice keeps you on track. CLEAR REFRESHMENT, CLEARER MOOD Drinking enough water does more than quench our thirst — it also significantly impacts our outlook and relationships with others. Even mild dehydration can negatively affect our brain function, leading to fatigue, difficulty concentrating, and poor memory. A lack of water can also instigate or heighten stress and anxiety and prolong headaches. If you feel tired, stressed, and more anxious than usual, skip the soda and reach for a water bottle instead. A BOOST WITHOUT BEANS Whether you work in an office or enjoy the convenience of remote employment from home, you’re likely susceptible to the mid-afternoon
slump that affects nearly everyone after lunch. Brewing a cup of coffee may seem like the best way to give your mind and body a boost, but drinking plain water instead can do wonders for your physical and mental energy throughout the day and help you avoid an inevitable caffeine crash. Also, studies show that caffeinated coffee causes dehydration — which can lead to the negative feelings we previously mentioned. A WAY TO PERFECT WEIGHT Now that another holiday season has passed, many people are looking for healthy ways to lose a few extra pounds. While diet and exercise are critical factors in a successful weight loss plan, staying hydrated is another trick to keeping your body lean. Drinking plenty of water can increase our metabolism and reduce our caloric consumption, providing a natural way to lower the number we see on the scale. Including water in your daily health regimen will help you move one step closer to maintaining a slim shape and a sharp mind.

WHERE MOTION MEETS MINDFULNESS
MOVEMENT’S IMPACT ON MENTAL CLARITY
LESSENING LOW SPIRITS In addition to helping people rise above the challenges of an injury, physical therapy has been shown to improve the outlook of those struggling with major depression. According to a report published by the National Institutes of Health, “For mild to moderate depression, the effect of exercise may be comparable to antidepressant medication and psychotherapy; for severe depression, exercise seems to be a valuable complementary therapy to the traditional treatments.” When combined with other care methods, physical therapy may be an answer for those whose mood could use a positive lift.
Physical therapy does much more than make our muscles and limbs feel better — it can also bring peace and balance to our minds.
As a form of exercise, physical therapy can make a tremendous difference in our mental health. Here are a few ways improving our physical state can help foster a healthier, happier brain.
CONQUERING CHEMICAL CHAOS An acute physical injury can have a substantial impact on our mindset, as pain prompts our body to release hormones that cause stress and anxiety. When a person experiences persistent pain, these hormones remain constant in the body. Physical therapy may help reduce this pain and bring a patient back to their previous range of motion, thus eliminating the need for these stress-inducing hormones to respond to a physical condition no longer present or one that has been significantly alleviated. Of course, participating in physical therapy gives many patients a renewed sense of confidence as they begin to feel the results of accomplishing their goals.
Whether you’re looking to brighten your spirits following surgery or an injury or searching for new ways to address long-standing mental health obstacles, Campus Commons Physical Therapy has solutions tailored to meet your specific needs. Please contact us today so we can help guide you toward a more positive mind and body.

If “health is wealth,” then maintaining optimal gut health is the road map to success! All too often, we think of gut health as keeping stomach issues at bay. While that belief has some truth, improving your gut health is crucial in regulating and supporting your body’s overall functions.
add fruit, or create salad dressings, sauces, and smoothies! The key is to check the label to
ensure it says “Live and Active Cultures.” That means it likely contains Lactobacillus acidophilus and Lactobacillus casei.
So, how can you achieve optimal gut health?
The answer is simple: probiotics. Probiotics are beneficial bacteria housed in your gut to help your body’s natural processes, and adding them to your daily diet can do wonders for your overall gut health. Of course, you can take various tablets, capsules, gummies, and even sodas now to get your daily dose. However, supplements in those forms can get pricey, especially when certain foods are naturally packed with the probiotics your body needs. Here are three delicious foods you can eat to get your daily dose of gut health. PICKLES: Pickles aren’t only the perfect addition to your burger or salad! Naturally fermented pickles and their juice are actually saturated with helpful probiotics, vitamins, and minerals your body needs.
KIMCHI: This healthy, bacteria- driven food is the cornerstone of Korean cuisine, made with fermented cabbage and gochujang, a Korean chili paste. It also contains
vegetables like daikon radish, ginger, and carrots. The fermentation process makes it a probiotic. Kimchi can be found in the refrigerated section of your grocery store and sometimes in the produce department. It’s never too late or too early to start getting proactive about probiotics. Incorporating these “easy on the gut” foods into your daily diet will change the makeup of the bacteria in your gut, which, in turn, will keep your body’s overall functioning in tip-top shape.
GREEK YOGURT: Greek yogurt is the all-star of all gut-friendly foods simply because it can be used in many different ways. You can eat it plain,
