Exploring the State of Building Sector in Non-Metropolitan Areas of British Columbia
Description There is concern that some communities in non-metropolitan B.C. may not have the resources necessary for taking on new residential construction projects and repairing and maintaining existing housing. With local contractors, skilled trades - people and suppliers in short supply, residential construction projects could potentially be delayed or not initiated, leading to the possible deterioration of the housing stock in the community. This study will look at the overall availability of residential construction resources in smaller B.C. communities by researching a range of newly constructed BC Housing projects and existing subsidized housing projects. Impact This study will research the impact of residential construction resource shortages on the building sector in small B.C. communities in relation to new construction costs and the repair and maintenance of the existing housing stock.
