Field Evaluation of Roof Sheathing Surface Treatments – Asphalt Shingle Sloped Roofing Research Study (Phase 2)
Description Low-slope vented roof assemblies are widely used in wood-frame construction throughout Canada. However, vented wood-frame assemblies have posed consistent durability and moisture challenges in the Pacific Northwest climate. This study identifies the main wetting mechanisms, potential for mould growth, and what the typical air leakage is in low-slope roofs as compared to conventional roofs. To assess best practice, the project includes a literature review, survey of roof renewals, field monitoring and testing, energy simulations and industry guidelines. Impact This study quantifies the risk and identifies safe insulation and ventilation strategies for low-sloped roofs.
