BCC President Gene Smith and Director April Scott Named WilmingtonBiz 100 Honorees
BCC President Gene Smith and Small Business Center Director April Scott were named WilmingtonBiz 100 honorees for the second year in a row. Selected as a Top Influencer, President Smith was recognized for leading BCC’s efforts to engage area residents in the college as students, donors, members of the Sports & Aquatics Complex, concertgoers at the Odell Williamson Auditorium, and more. His achievements include attracting adult learners with a John M. Belk Endowment grant, expanding
trade programs, launching a Dental Assisting Program, and planning a Public Safety Training Center. April Scott, honored as a Top Connector, is a dedicated advocate for entrepreneurs. In 2022, she created the Womenprenur Empowerment Summit and recently held year three of the annual two-day event. Also contributing to April’s selection as a Top Connector is her work in creating more opportunities for Hispanic entrepreneurs.
Rita Sellers, a lead instructor for Brunswick Community College’s Brunswick Interagency Program (BIP), has received the Kiwanis Community Service Award. Sellers has dedicated 31 years to supporting adults with intellectual disabilities. She serves as a liaison between staff, students, and families, tailoring learning activities to various BIP Instructor Rita Sellers Wins Kiwanis Community Service Award cognitive levels and guiding students in community projects. Sellers also advises BIP’s Kiwanis Aktion Club, empowering adults with disabilities to develop leadership skills and contribute to service programs. Her exceptional commitment has earned her deep respect from students and the community.
Xitracs™ Names BCC a Customer Achievement Recipient Xitracs™ recently named Brunswick Community College (BCC) a Customer Achievement recipient due to the College’s excellent curriculum program review process. Congratulations to Dr. Jennifer McBride and Dr. Kevin Lee
for leading this effort, which involves program faculty reporting on student learning outcomes and program effectiveness annually.
