Another Great Year of Golf had by Ardmac’s Golf Society
Our fifth year of the Golf Society came to a successful end last Friday, 24th Sept. We had 24 Golfers on the day, the weather was nice and the golf was great. Clontarfs tight fairways and challenging greens were too challenging for some but enjoyed by all. We have 55 members in the society and as previously noted, we welcome anybody looking to get involved, from beginner right up to Graeme Stuart standard. Winners on the day with a great score of 3 under were Peter Gough, Mike Fowler, Alan O Mahony and Jan de Groot. Peter has featured in most of his events attended and will be actively chasing next years Golfer of the Year title. They were closely followed on 2 under by Graeme Stuart, Conor Murray, Alex Coakley and Jon Doherty. In third place we had David Kavanagh, John Alexander and Dermot Mckenna with a good score of level par. Disaster struck again for the number 1. Golfer in the society, Graeme Stuart, in his shot at golfer of the year. Missing out on 1st place and / or his main event, closest to the pin, in Clontarf meant that for yet another year, the coveted Golfer of the Year prize has alluded him. Like his beloved Mayo, its back home empty handed and back to drawing board for another tilt at the top in 2022. Graeme is our most consistent golfer and will no doubt reach the summit over the coming years. Chris Fitzpatrick and Michael Quinns ambitions for a maiden win faltered with both hot shots paired together on the day and bringing up the rear to win the wooden spoon. Zero points on the day hurt their ambitions. Ian Madden scraped through for Golfer of the Year this year. Thank you to Darragh ‘Boom Boom’ Walsh for a brilliant year at the helm as Captain. He gave it his all and lived up to his reputation as a man that makes things happen. Thanks Daz. Best of luck to Michael Quinn next year, we’re hoping you can fill the big boots of all past captains and continue to bring the society forward.
