Falcons ready to fly on football field GREGGCHAMBERLAIN gregg.chamberlain@eap.on.ca chance at gridiron glory for St. Francis Xavier Catholic High School.

The SFX Falcons have spent the three weeks tearing up the turf behind the school with practice sessions starting before the Labour Day weekend. Coach Scott Stoqua has 18 veterans on the roster out of the 27 signed up to play in the new season for the Seaway high school football league. “Which is good,” Stoqua said. Five of his core group of players are in their Grade 12 year now at SFX with a “good number” of Grade 11s to provide experienced support to the rookiemembers of the team from the junior grades. “Their attitude is good,” said Stoqua, regarding how the team is shaping up during the pre-season practice. “Lots of energy. I’m really looking forward to the season.” First game for the Falcons is home at SFX on Sept. 19 against the St. Thomas Aquinas Ravens from Russell. The Ravens were a Tier One team in the league last season but have dropped down to Tier Two because of a smaller player roster this year. “It’ll be a good test for us,” said Stoqua. Kicko# is at noon hour Friday.
