AWT Labels & Packaging Acquires Citation Labeling AWT Labels & Packaging, Minneapolis, Minnesota, has closed on the acquisition of Citation Clinical La- beling Systems, Hauppauge, NewYork. The business will be owned by AWT and manage- ment and operate under the name of Citation Health- care Labels LLC. A narrow- and wide-web converter of labels and flexible packaging, AWT’s primary business involves converting various substrates (primarily films) into pressure-sensitive labels, shrink sleeves, extended- content labels, digital labels, flexible packaging and other specialty products for the healthcare, industri- al/OEM, food and beverage, household and personal care markets. Citation provides clinical trial labels for pharmaceu- tical and biotechnology companies, clinical research organizations and clinical packagers. The company was founded in 1963 by the family of Richard Bol- nick, who will remain as President of Citation, as a di- versified distributor of printing and labels. Both Rich Bolnick, President of Citation, and Freder- ick Youngs, Chief Operating Officer of Citation, will continue in leadership roles and will become share- holders of AWT. Citation operates out of a single pharmaceutical- and medical-grade facility in Hauppauge and employs approximately 100 employees. Diversified Labeling Converts Label Waste To Clean Energy Diversified Labeling Solutions (DLS), a PS label converter with five U.S. locations headquartered in Itasca, Illinois, has found a cost-effective waste management solution that saves 2 million pounds of label matrix annually from reaching landfills. At the same time, the solution provides a clean burn- ing fuel source for energy companies. This is part of DLS’ commitment to improving the environ- ment and creating sustainable ways to operate its business. Working in conjunction with Channeled Resources who sources and qualifies label feedstock for energy companies; waste hauler Republic Services; and Con- vergen Energy, a waste converter and power compa- ny; DLS now has its label production waste turned into fuel pellets that are then used to power an elec- tric utility plant. The pellets are burned as a substitute for coal, de- creasing the need for the fossil fuel and reducing CO2 emissions by 40 percent.
