Rebecca Bryan; It wasn’t just her looks that impressed him, but it was her actions. During the wedding, she was courteous, helpful, and kind. Now, for the first time in his life, Daniel was thinking about marriage. The following spring Daniel and Rebecca joined a local group of young men and women who went on Saturday picnics together. Most of the others were engaged to be married, but Daniel was not sure how he could ever be positive that Rebecca was the right girl for him. That is, until he came up with a devious plan. On one of their outings, Rebecca wore a new apron. Knowing that Rebecca was very proud of her fancy apron, Daniel used it to test her temper. He had realized his foolishness in himself and needed a wife that would be able to accept that. So as the two of them sat side by side eating a slice of pie, Daniel pulled his knife from its sheath, reached down, and cut several gashes in Rebecca’s apron. On the last cut he bumped Rebecca’s leg so that she would look down and see what he was doing. The stunned Rebecca gave Daniel a puzzled look but did not say a word. Through this, she showed great self-control. As Christ commands us to be in Proverbs 16:32 that states: “He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city”. Daniel waited a few seconds and explained himself. Making known to her that he wanted to see if she would fly into rage or wait for an explanation for what he had done. Rebecca slowly nodded in understanding. Although she did not look very pleased about what Daniel had done to her favorite apron, Daniel was overflowing with joy about the results. For he knew he could never marry a woman with a violate temper. And now he was satisfied that Rebecca Bryan was as calm and serene on the inside as she looked on the outside. On the strength of a few cuts made in an apron, Daniel asked if he could officially court Rebecca, who along with her family, agreed. While Daniel and Rebecca were courting, Daniel’s oldest brother Israel Died of tuberculosis and soon after that his wife followed leaving behind 4 sad and lonely children. Daniel decided that he should take care of a couple of them. Therefore, when he asked Rebecca to marry him he added a request to take care of two of Israel’s children. Rebecca happily agreed even though it did mean extra work and no honeymoon. However, she did not mind. She showed a Godly characteristic of Contentment as the scripture commands us to be in I Timothy 6:6 that says: “But Godliness with contentment is great gain.” There is so much to tell about Daniel Boone that cannot be told in ten minutes.
