→ Close missing sidewalk gaps and widen sidewalks along Broad Street and Jefferson Street. → Repaint and add in new crosswalks with flashing beacon lights for midblock crossing where missing. → Upgrade Green Line bus stop infrastructure to BRT gold standard levels. → Improve MLK Jr. Parkway station currently located underneath overpass by adding wider sidewalks, lighting, and crosswalks to make it safer and remove pedestrian conflicts with highway interchange traffic. Alternatively consider moving the station to the underutilized commercial node at the corner of 21st and Boulevard Street to the north of the US1/MLK Jr. Parkway interchange. Explore small scale JTA joint development opportunities in this area. → Encourage hospital to adopt travel demand management (TDM) strategies that encourage employees to access work by transit. → Reconnect neighborhoods located to the west of Jefferson Street and the east of I-95 into the urban fabric with new streets that recreate the urban grid. → Consider additional transit circulator service for residents living in Brentwood neighborhood to access major grocery stores at Gateway and other nearby amenities. → Create Complete Street conditions along 8th Street to encourage Main Street design features with wide sidewalks and buildings oriented to the street.
Connect Jobs & Housing
→ Work with public sector and nonprofit partners to unlock large scale infill opportunities (JHA, JEA, UF Health). → Build market rate multifamily or workforce housing residential on surface parking lots. → Expand on Community Land Trust initiative to promote affordable homeownership.
→ Facilitate phased redevelopment of Roosevelt Gardens and Darnell-Cookman, opening up additional land for TOD. → Connect development to S-Line/proposed Emerald Trail, improve McPherson Park.
