HELP US HELP OTHERS! NOMINATE A FAMILY DESERVING OF CHRISTMAS DONATIONS THIS YEAR!

So many people have lost their jobs as a result of this pandemic, but no one should have to sacrifice their holiday celebrations. We would like to give one family in Pinellas County the magic of Christmas. With your help, we will pay for one family’s holiday meal and even buy toys and gifts for their children. We need you to nominate families deserving of this gift. Maybe you know a family who has been struggling with a devastating diagnosis or a single parent who is just trying to ensure their children have the best childhood possible. Whoever it is, we know everyone knows someone who could use a little extra cheer, support, and magic this holiday season. I f you have someone in mind, please send a 150‑word (or less) nomination to Angela@DenmonLaw.com or direct message us on Facebook! Please include your name, your email address, your telephone number, and the deserving family’s contact information. “We want to alleviate that stress for a family and give them the Christmas they deserve,” says criminal defense and estate planning attorney Nicole Denmon. “The holidays should be fun and worry-free! But we need your help to decide.”

We’re honored to help a local family in this way for the first time this year, and we believe this will become another way in which we continue to do good in our home. We are also proud organizers of Rainbros, a giant party during St. Pete’s fantastic Pride Celebration. We support our LGBTQ+ family and friends, and this event is one of our favorite moments of the whole year! We cannot wait for it to return in 2021; we’re already counting down the days! We also help in local schools by awarding teachers and students with gift cards as part of Tampa Bay’s Best, and we donate canned goods and nonperishable food items to local schools in impoverished regions. We have always been a proud member and supporter of this community. Going above and beyond what our clients need is just in our nature, and doing what we can to support our community is second nature. “We are so fortunate to be part of an amazing community,” Denmon says. “We love St. Pete’s, and we pride ourselves on providing a positive contribution.” Thank you, Pinellas County, for helping us to that once again! Happy Holidays!

All entries must be submitted by Dec. 11, 2020.

A t Denmon Pearlman, we believe in representing all of Pinellas County. That means we aren’t just advocates for our clients or when we’re in the courtroom. We believe in the power of action, and that often means organizing community events, sponsoring local causes, partnering with our schools, and creating a stronger community through action. This community is our home base. It’s where our main office is located, and many of our employees live in Pinellas County. We raise our families here, we play here, and we gather with our loved ones here. We couldn’t imagine being members of this community and not committing to making it a better place that’s welcoming for all people. And now, we want your help to make this possible for one family in Pinellas County this holiday season.

IF YOU HAVE SOMEONE IN MIND, PLEASE SEND A 150-WORD (OR LESS) NOMINATION TO ANGELA@ DENMONLAW.COM OR DIRECT MESSAGE US ON FACEBOOK!”

HOLIDAY HACKS FOR THE BUSY PROFESSIONAL 4 TIPS FOR A LESS EXHAUSTING HOLIDAY SEASON

The holidays are an incredibly busy time of year. Between work and home, it can feel like there isn’t enough daylight to get everything done. We have projects to complete, emails to answer, dinners to plan, gifts to buy — and family is coming in from out of town. Is it possible to take care of everything and not be completely exhausted by the end of it? While we can’t answer that definitively, we can share a few “holiday hacks” to help you get more out of your time. PUT WORK ASIDE. Give yourself blocks of time to focus on one thing at a time. You may be tempted to multitask, but for your mental health, don’t do it. Focusing on one thing at a time produces better results (this applies equally to cooking as it does to client work) and you’ll feel better through the process.

the same at home? Start with your immediate family and work your way out. Give everyone a task: Someone does the grocery shopping. Someone is in charge of a main course dish. Another is on side-dish duty. Others get dessert. Don’t forget to assign a clean-up crew. Save yourself for the tasks you REALLY want to do. TAKE FREQUENT BREAKS. When you have a lot going on, frequent 5–10 minute minibreaks can go a long way in easing the mental pressure. Don’t hesitate to take brain breaks throughout the day. Go for a quick walk around the building or neighborhood. Read a chapter of your book. Play a quick game on your phone. SAY NO TO THE KITCHEN. When your time is precious, why spend a lot of time in the kitchen? While some find cooking a joy, others find it burdensome. If you’re in the latter group, it’s okay to go the boxed or prepared meal route when time is short. Boxed meals can still be prepared with love, and you can get high-quality frozen dishes or freshly prepared meals from your favorite grocery store. The time and energy you save is worth the investment. In 2020, we have more options than ever to make life easier. So, enjoy the holidays a little more by doing the things you love and using these tips to make the most of your time and energy this season.

DELEGATE — AT HOME! You delegate assignments at work, so why not do

YOU MAY NOT BE ‘FINE’

WHY YOU SHOULD SEE A DOCTOR AFTER AN ACCIDENT

T he first few moments after an accident can be terrifying. The scene is often chaotic as you try to make sense of what just happened. Photos, reports, and statements will need to be collected — often, law enforcement does this — but in the midst of this scary moment, your focus should be solely on your health. Seeking medical attention immediately following an accident is one of the wisest choices you can make. Doctors will be able to treat wounds before they become more serious, and they can also pinpoint potential injuries you don’t yet feel. Doctors can also prescribe additional care or treatment regimens, such as physical therapy or seeing a specialist. It’s not uncommon for accident victims to say they are “fine” after an accident, only to feel pain later. This is an effect of the adrenaline your body pumps out after an accident, which is there to help you stay alert to stay alive. An unintended consequence of this is that you may not feel some of the most dangerous injuries you can sustain from accidents, like a concussion, broken ribs, or internal bleeding. These could be detrimental to your health and require costly treatments as a result of prolonged time without care.

While your health should be your first priority after an accident, simply seeing your doctor also benefits you should you need to take legal action as the result of an accident. Doctors are required to keep reports, and this initial report could start the paper trail that proves just how damaging this accident was for your health. Without that initial assessment, your claim could be twisted by the defense. During the course of a personal injury case, insurance companies and opposing counseling will request access to your medical records. They may actively work to prove that your injury wasn’t the result of the incident and instead indicative of ongoing conditions. The initial report can establish a start date for new concerns and injuries and provide the court with an accurate depiction of what your body sustained as a result of a collision.

Because it is vital to your well-being and because it may benefit you in a future

legal case, you should always opt for medical attention after your accident — even if you feel fine. If you have questions about medical care after your accident or about how your medical history will impact your case, call our team today at 888.714.2571.

RELAX AND ENJOY

Inspired by BoulderLocavore.com

If you’re cutting back on calories, skip the eggnog and buttered rum this year and fill up your mug with this delicious mulled cider!

AT SIP & DRY: A BLOWDRY BAR!

INGREDIENTS

• •

1 lemon

• •

2 tsp allspice berries 1 inch fresh ginger, thinly sliced

1 gallon pure apple cider 1 large orange, thinly sliced crosswise 2 tsp whole cloves

When Blair Hiller was a flight attendant, her favorite way to pamper herself before or after a flight was to get a blowout from a salon in Tampa, Florida. Her hairstyle would last longer, she wouldn’t have to wash it as much, and while she was in that chair, Blair found focus.

• •

2 tbsp honey

3 cinnamon sticks

1. Using a paring knife, shave the lemon peel off in curls. Reserve the curls and save the lemon for use in a different recipe. 2. In a large slow cooker, combine the lemon peel with all other ingredients. Cook on low for 3–4 hours. 3. If desired, use a sieve to strain the spices. Serve and enjoy! DIRECTIONS

“It’s just the best,” Blair says. “I would take the hour to get my hair done, but I would spend an hour with myself. It’s a nice experience, and then you get to feel good.”

A lifelong resident of St. Pete’s, Blair knew blowouts were just what her community was missing. She loved her salon in Tampa, but she also knew that traveling to and from St. Pete’s wasn’t feasible for everyone. With the support of her husband, Nick Hiller, Blair began Sip & Dry, a local salon that doesn’t offer cuts or color. Instead, it offers women a chance to escape and feel good about themselves, Blair explains, adding that Sip & Dry often caters to wedding parties. “We have the morning girls that come in going to work, and then those who have a long day and they have an event the next day,” Blair says. “[We wanted] something where people can get their hair and makeup done for the wedding. It’s a fun, girls hang out vibe.” With pops of soft pink and touches of gold, Sip & Dry: A Blow Dry Bar is a modern, fun take on the traditional spa or salon. It’s a place to relax, but it’s also a place to rejuvenate and replenish. (Our very own Nicole Denmon is an avid fan who does just that at Sip & Dry.) When the COVID-19 pandemic hammered down on the U.S., the salon implemented preventive measures, spreading out the chairs and maintaining proper cleanliness. While it wasn’t easy, Blair says it was the connections and teamwork of her fellow business owners, like Denmon Pearlman, that helped Sip & Dry push forward through a tough summer into a promising fall. “As businesses, we did little giveaways to support each other. Product sales were huge for us during those times. People will still support us by buying products,” Blair says. Those products are going to be huge around the holidays, Blair adds. She encourages everyone to take the challenge she and her stylists at the salon will be taking on and only shop local for the holidays.

5 Ways to Make Your Holiday Extra Eco-Friendly This Year

5 WAYS TO MAKE YOUR HOLIDAY EXTRA ECO-FRIENDLY THIS YEAR

Sustainability is the gift that keeps on giving, so if you’d like to give a gift to the environment this December, make your holidays anti-plastic! Here are five ways that you can use the latest eco-friendly technology to make sure your Christmas is just as convenient as ever. SET UP RECYCLING BINS. Nobody wants to sort through trash on their holiday, especially if you’re hosting all the parties! To avoid dealing with the waste, set up recycling and composting bins before any home holiday festivities. It’ll make your next trip to a local recycling center so much faster because everything will be organized and easier to manage. USE PAPER CONTAINERS FOR LEFTOVERS. Give your celebration a restaurant-from-home feel by storing and giving away leftovers in paper containers rather than plastic. Paper will dissolve and leave behind much less chemical residue than plastic. Want to make it look extra posh? Stamp the exterior with the family initials!

packaging extra interesting, colorful, and creative? Use newspapers, magazines, comics, posters, maps, or even art by your kids to conceal your gifts this year. RENT, BORROW, OR RETHINK YOUR TABLEWARE. If you’re missing proper tableware for your holiday celebration, don’t despair — some companies will actually let you rent out their dishes for your special evening! You can also borrow tableware from friends and family. But you don’t have to use metal tableware. Try following another culture’s customs and serve your food on local ingredients, like palm leaves, coconuts, or wood. LOCALIZE AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE. If you can buy ingredients like fresh meat or vegetables from local farms, you won’t use as much plastic packaging and you’ll support small businesses at the same time! Never buy one-use plastics if you don’t have to. For every holiday tradition, ask yourself: Can I reduce, reuse, or recycle any components to this? We hope you have a happy, eco-friendly holiday!

CHANGE UP YOUR GIFT WRAP. Why use wrapping paper every year when you can make your
