AT SIP & DRY: A BLOWDRY BAR!
INGREDIENTS
• •
1 lemon
• •
2 tsp allspice berries 1 inch fresh ginger, thinly sliced
1 gallon pure apple cider 1 large orange, thinly sliced crosswise 2 tsp whole cloves
When Blair Hiller was a flight attendant, her favorite way to pamper herself before or after a flight was to get a blowout from a salon in Tampa, Florida. Her hairstyle would last longer, she wouldn’t have to wash it as much, and while she was in that chair, Blair found focus.

2 tbsp honey
3 cinnamon sticks

1. Using a paring knife, shave the lemon peel off in curls. Reserve the curls and save the lemon for use in a different recipe. 2. In a large slow cooker, combine the lemon peel with all other ingredients. Cook on low for 3–4 hours. 3. If desired, use a sieve to strain the spices. Serve and enjoy! DIRECTIONS
“It’s just the best,” Blair says. “I would take the hour to get my hair done, but I would spend an hour with myself. It’s a nice experience, and then you get to feel good.”
A lifelong resident of St. Pete’s, Blair knew blowouts were just what her community was missing. She loved her salon in Tampa, but she also knew that traveling to and from St. Pete’s wasn’t feasible for everyone. With the support of her husband, Nick Hiller, Blair began Sip & Dry, a local salon that doesn’t offer cuts or color. Instead, it offers women a chance to escape and feel good about themselves, Blair explains, adding that Sip & Dry often caters to wedding parties. “We have the morning girls that come in going to work, and then those who have a long day and they have an event the next day,” Blair says. “[We wanted] something where people can get their hair and makeup done for the wedding. It’s a fun, girls hang out vibe.” With pops of soft pink and touches of gold, Sip & Dry: A Blow Dry Bar is a modern, fun take on the traditional spa or salon. It’s a place to relax, but it’s also a place to rejuvenate and replenish. (Our very own Nicole Denmon is an avid fan who does just that at Sip & Dry.) When the COVID-19 pandemic hammered down on the U.S., the salon implemented preventive measures, spreading out the chairs and maintaining proper cleanliness. While it wasn’t easy, Blair says it was the connections and teamwork of her fellow business owners, like Denmon Pearlman, that helped Sip & Dry push forward through a tough summer into a promising fall. “As businesses, we did little giveaways to support each other. Product sales were huge for us during those times. People will still support us by buying products,” Blair says. Those products are going to be huge around the holidays, Blair adds. She encourages everyone to take the challenge she and her stylists at the salon will be taking on and only shop local for the holidays.
