Jobs Regional growth has been fueled by job growth, with employment growing by 2% in Duval County (~9,000 jobs) and by 4.2% in St. Johns County (~5,000) annually since 2012. Since 2010, both counties combined have added 130,000 jobs with 63% coming from Duval and 37% from St. Johns. As of January 2022, the number of jobs in both counties has fully recovered since the pandemic-driven decline in early 2020, as shown in Figure 3-36. The area continues to attract companies for headquarters, including Fortune 500 companies like CSX and FIS in Downtown Jacksonville. While healthcare and financial services are responsible for Duval County’s economic growth, the two deep-water ports, Jaxport and the Port of Fernandia, an international airport, and three railroads, Duval County’s geographic location has positioned the transportation and warehouse industry for strong growth as well; transportation and warehouse jobs have increased 74%, 19,546 jobs, since 2010.
