STATION AREA ASSESSMENT JRTC STATION
STATION AREA OVERVIEW
The JRTC Station Area is the northern terminus of the FCCR Line between Downtown Jacksonville and St. Augustine and is located in the southern portion of the LaVilla neighborhood; a historic and culturally significant neighborhood representing one of the oldest urbanized, African American districts in Florida. JTA’s opening of the JRTC, and with it JTA’s new headquarters, places LaVilla in the center of Jacksonville’s vision for a regional transportation network. Aside from the Prime Osborn Convention Center, attached to the historic Jacksonville Terminal, and Greyhound Bus Terminal, vacant land created by unsuccessful urban renewal initiatives of the early 1990’s dominates the station area and surround the JRTC. Contributing to the auto-centric character of the area, Bay Street and
Forsyth Street facilitate high volumes of vehicular traffic between downtown and I-95. In recent years, with momentum generated by the construction of the JRTC, and under the guidance and support from the Downtown Investment Authority (DIA), more than 450 affordable and workforce multifamily residential units have been constructed along with the planned LaVilla Townhomes. Additionally, the Emerald Trail, a 30-mile signature outdoor destination, currently under construction, crosses immediately adjacent to the JRTC Station Area.

JACKSON SQUARE
This station area is within a built out urban area west of downtown Jacksonville. There are some existing recreational and open land cover adjacent to the station area, as well as the presence of a 100-Year Flood Zone. There is a large presence of transportation and utility land cover within the station area, most noticeably I-95 northwest of the station serving as a built barrier to connectivity. One waterbody, McCoy Creek, runs through the station area.
