ST. AUGUSTINE STATION
STATION AREA OVERVIEW
St. Augustine Station is along the western limits of the St. Augustine Downtown Historic District just west of North Ponce de Leon Boulevard, the city’s main north-south throughway. Most of the land cover is already developed other than some of the banks of the San Sebastian River. Overall, this station area is generally walkable, and is one of the most established destinations for commercial, educational, and residential opportunities on the commuter rail line. This station will provide good access to the tourist district along the eastern limits of Downtown through Saragrossa and Carrera Streets. The western portion of Downtown’s Historic District is mainly an established residential community, a contrast to the more urban and compact Old Town St. Augustine, which has Spanish- colonial and Spanish Renaissance architecture and cobblestone streets. Multiple educational facilities are also present within this station area. Flagler College, a private liberal arts college housed in and around the Ponce de Leon Hotel, is part of the station area’s urban fabric. St. Augustine Station also will provide access to some of the City’s major civic space and gathering areas, including Francis Field and Ponto Central-St.
Augustine Center. A major drawback of this station is the large amount of structured and surface parking options associated with some of the educational, civic, and tourist destinations in Downtown.
