FIRST COAST COMMUTER RAIL TRANSIT-ORIENTED DEVELOPMENT (TOD) STUDY – WORKSHOP 2 COMMENT SUMMARY
JTA FCCR TOD: Frameworks & Examples Survey Comments
Please share your thoughts about the proposed JRTC framework.
Expanded regional (and local) transportation is vital to the continued growth of Jacksonville. Development of areas as proposed could help revitalize areas.
I'm excited to see these plans materialize
This should be extended to the Jacksonville Airport (eventually)
It would make more sense to get the train up and running and get a sense of usage and ridership before building out all this other development. We need this so badly! Please keep pushing to get this done. I have no idea about the funding, but this would be an amazing addition to our city! Please keep this going and do NOT submit 1,500 renderings and have 8 million discussions. This looks amazi ng. Streamline the process, please! I would love to see a light rail here!!!! I could bicycle to the Baymeadows station and get to St aug?! Or downtown?! And not have to worry about parking or not drinking or traffic?! Finally like a *real city*?!?!
I like the idea, just wish we were closer to implementation!!!
Good starting point for transit-oriented development downtown. Upzoning everything within a quarter mile of the station will allow for the density required for sustainable ridership. Sadly, I believe this plan is fairly flawed. I compare it to the light rail system in the greater Baltimore area, with which I am quite familiar. The Baltimore Light Rail was designed and installed to preserve a right of way corridor before it was parceled out for development. Originally, it was meant to service a decaying Howard Street shopping corridor in downtown Baltimore City, and to service a vibrant shopping center in Hunt Valley in Baltimore County. That system did not become a highly utilized sy stem until it was expanded to include Penn Station (Amtrak and Metra) in Baltimore City, Metra at Camden Station, and BWI airport in Anne Arundel County. Ridership for commuting and living is a fraction of total ridership, which is heavily weighted toward transportation connections and entertainment commuting. Without servicing those two components, the light rail system itself would have been a failed boondoggle. As it is, it is fairly successful. Riders use it to
