FCCR: Transit-Oriented Development Study

FIRST COAST COMMUTER RAIL TRANSIT-ORIENTED DEVELOPMENT (TOD) STUDY – WORKSHOP 2 COMMENT SUMMARY

commute to work at shopping centers (mainly Hunt Valley) and downtown, to commute to the professional sports venues, and to commute to air and rail stations. Riders do not use it for shopping. For the JRTC to be successful it really ought to connect the downtown JAX sports venues, JAX airport, the NE Florida Regional airport, and any transportation centers it can possibly connect, including Amtrak stations. The bulk of potential riders will use it for those purposes, not for shopping trips or casual day trips. Multi-use development around a transportation center is truly a non-starter. People use transport to go where they want to go, not just because it is there. Connect this rail system to places that large numbers of people want to go to, and people will use it. Make it a boutique conveyor and few people will use it. This is an incomplete idea, as the Baltimore Light Rail was until it was extended.

 I think add a stop for the Jaguars Stadium!!

 If this happens, please bring Amtrak back to the inner city from its present location.  That’s exactly what needs to happen. The terminal needs to be a central transportation hub yet again  where would the access point for SR210 and US1 be?

 Ghetto in the making.

 Extend the line to the airport - there is no good method to get there except to drive.  Great presentation. My biggest concern is the traffic generated by the additional residents brought into the St. Augustine area if they build the large 7 story building at King Street. SR312 could be just as bad.  The proposed jrtc framework is good. However, the rail track should be built before any residential and retail space gets developed.

 No. It will increase crime.

 Continue to expand, so that Jacksonville will have more transportation options.

 Long Island Railroad works because it serves 350,000 riders per day in a huge population base. In Jacksonville, this will be nothing more than a multi-billion-dollar boondoggle.

 No train between Jax and St Augustine
