FIRST COAST COMMUTER RAIL TRANSIT-ORIENTED DEVELOPMENT (TOD) STUDY – WORKSHOP 2 COMMENT SUMMARY
What comments do you have about the proposed SR 312 examples?
The mixed use development should look similar to Hyde park village in Tampa, FL. The residential part should look similar to the point at town center in Jacksonville, FL but with more walkability. The public realm should look similar to Valencia park in San Jose, CA. I say on target knowing that this won't come to fruition for several years by which time the younger demographic of the county will be welcoming the proposed examples. Too many of our county residents today don't see the need for these spaces. No real need for transportation from St Aug to Jax...... This idea is about additional development While yes you are constrained by the fact the land is in private hands, I dont think it would hurt to have a good plan/zoning overlay like y'all have created with CR210, JRTC, that really go for it, that get the private sector energized to make the investment and follow the plan you create in order to get development that aligns with transit. The important take away for SR312 is go way bigger, area, scale, density.
too much auto parking and too much looking like more sprawl.
Looking way west to FDOT's brand new Shands Bridge, a landmark within FDOT's First Coast Expressway, "Toll 23," State Road 23.......the current effort MUST be to build that bridge wide enough to make it rail-ready for the future. In order to bring rail to the west side of the St. Johns. It's not fair to ignore the Westside. CSX has PROVED it will play ball with public heavy rail transit HRT in the case of Sunrail in greater Orlando (all the way south to Poinciana). Just the way that the Florida East Coa st Railroad is pondering playing ball with public transit on this Philips Highway / US #1 Corridor. And just the way that the FECRR sold or leased trackage in greater Miami in order to bring about Brightline. The way private landholders partnered for Miami Metrorail circa 1977 and since. First Coast Commuter Rail MUST travel to Jacksonville International Airport as part of Phase II or Phase III.
Spend the money to fix Philips highway traffic!
