SIDEWALKS
The western station area is predominately residential with supporting uses. These include open spaces such as Jackson Square and Southside Park. Additionally, there are a number of schools and religious institutions within the Jackson Square Station Area. These neighborhoods are served by low volume roadways such as Hendricks Avenue and Atlantic Boulevard. The eastern station area contains a small pocket of single family residential. Access to this area is provided via Atlantic Boulevard. The remaining eastern station area is dominated by the footprint of I-95. MAJOR CORRIDORS & CONNECTIONS US 1/Philips Highway and I-95 provide southeast to northwest connection to St. Augustine and Jacksonville respectfully. These roadways parallel each other within the station area. The other two major corridors are Atlantic Boulevard, a four-lane arterial road that provides the only east and west connections in the station area; and Hendricks Avenue which provides additional connections into the San Marco Neighborhood. Hendricks Avenue is two-lanes, turning to four-lanes in the southern portion of the station area. The FEC railway bisects the station area southeast to northwest, crossing Atlantic Boulevard at-grade. TRANSIT The station area contains the routes of Philips Highway/ Baymeadows/Avenue Mall, Beach/Town Center, First Coast Flyer/Southeast BRT, Mandarin Express, San Jose, St. Augustine/ San Jose. No stop within this station area has more than 13 boardings in an average day. JTA local services routes within the station area include Routes 27, 8, 17, and 25. There are 22 transit stops located within the station area, with stops along San Marco Boulevard, LaSalle Street, Hendricks Avenue, Atlantic Boulevard, Kings Avenue, and Philips Highway. The stops with the highest ridership are Stop 5037 on Lasalle Street and Naldo Avenue, Stop 1556 at Atlantic Boulevard and Perry Place, and Stop 1555 at Atlantic Boulevard and Kings Avenue; all in close proximity to the FEC railline.
The station area has a strong sidewalk network on the arterial roadways (Atlantic Boulevard, US 1/Philips Highway, Hendricks Avenue, etc.) with five-foot concrete sidewalks. Residential neighborhoods generally contain an internal sidewalk connection to access the arterial roadways. BIKE LANES & REGIONAL TRAILS US 1/Philips Highway features 10-foot bi-directional buffered bike lanes. Hendricks Avenue contains 5-foot bi-directional bike lanes. Currently, there are no regional trails accessing this station area. OPPORTUNITIES FOR CONNECTIVITY I-95 prevents any east-west pedestrian connectivity from outside of the overpass at Atlantic Boulevard. The residential areas of the station area feature strong connectivity with a mix of bicycle and pedestrian facilities.
