BAYMEADOWS

ATTRACTORS & NEIGHBORHOOD ACCESS

SIDEWALKS

The Baymeadows Station Area contains single family residential with limited strip development in the western portion. East of the FEC Rail Corridor, the predominate land uses are low density strip development with large surface parking lots. US 1 and Baymeadows Road serve as the major roadways in the station area, with supporting local collectors. MAJOR CORRIDORS & CONNECTIONS The FEC rail corridor bisects the station area northwest to the southeast, with Baymeadows Road crossing over the rail corridor. US 1 is east of the FEC rail corridor and provides access to Downtown Jacksonville to the north and St. Augustine to the south. Baymeadows Road is a four-lane arterial that provides east-west connectivity connecting crossing US 1,and accessing I-95 further east outside of the station area. In general, station area access either originates or terminates from US 1 or Baymeadows Road. TRANSIT The Baymeadows Station Area is serviced by the routes of Philips Highway/Baymeadows/Avenue Mall, First Coast Flyer/Southeast BRT, Southside Boulevard/ Sunbeam, and University. Stops are located on US 1, Baymeadows Road, and Old King’s Road S. Boardings within the station area are quite low. The highest ridership stops are found along US 1.

The residential areas in the western station area feature a strong sidewalk network connecting housing to arterial roadways. The sidewalk network in the eastern station area lacks connectivity. Sidewalks along US 1 are either on one side of the roadway or feature large gaps. Baymeadows Road does have 7-foot sidewalks on both directions of the roadway. BIKE LANES & REGIONAL TRAILS Baymeadows Road features bidirectional 5-foot buffered bike lanes. US 1, south of Baymeadows Road features bidirectional 5-foot buffered bike lanes. There are no regional trails or additional bicycle facilities within the station area. OPPORTUNITIES FOR CONNECTIVITY The FEC rail corridor crosses under the Baymeadows Road, and the grade separation would need to be addressed if a station were located at this location. However, there are various commercial strip developments between the FEC rail corridor and US 1 just south of Baymeadows Road which provide large surface lots to access a potential station location. These surface lots would help to support this station area as an origin station. The pedestrian crossing infrastructure at major intersections is robust. There are extensive opportunities to connect the gaps in the sidewalk network within the eastern portion of the station area. Likewise, providing additional bicycle facilities along US 1 would enhance multimodal access within the station area.
