AVENUES WALK
ATTRACTORS & NEIGHBORHOOD ACCESS
SIDEWALKS While there are sidewalks connecting to the Avenues Walk Mobility Hub, park-n-ride and the surrounding development located west of US 1 and the FEC railway, there is no sidewalk connectivity along Avenues Walk Boulevard where it crosses over the FEC railway to connect into US 1. The majority of US 1 within the station area does not have sidewalks, except at intermittent and unconnected locations in front of specific businesses. There are also no sidewalks along Southside Boulevard on the eastern side of the station area that connects to the Avenues Mall. BIKE LANES & REGIONAL TRAILS While there are bike racks available at the Avenues Walk Mobility Hub, there are no surrounding bike lanes along Avenues Walk west of the FEC railway, or on the eastern side of the station area along Southside Boulevard. The only bike lanes within the station are the bidirectional bike lanes along US 1. OPPORTUNITIES FOR CONNECTIVITY The Avenues Walk Station Area is predominantly an origin station area with heavily auto oriented infrastructure and large areas of surface parking lots. This station area would greatly benefit with greater multimodal connectivity by filling in gaps of the sidewalk and bike network, and an increased infrastructure to connect the mobility hub and network on the western station area to the Avenues Mall, located east of US 1. The construction of multi-use trails adjacent to major roadways would also greatly improve station area access. Likewise, the addition of pedestrian crossing facilities at major intersection would be encouraged upon construction of trails or sidewalk. Some of these networks can be integrated into the significant TOD opportunities surrounding the Avenues Walk Mobility Hub area. Enhancing multimodal infrastructure within the area could increase the mobility capabilities for fist and last mile trips accessing the regional shopping within this station area. While there is a grade separation between the FEC rail corridor and Avenues Walk Boulevard, the rail corridor also travels directly adjacent to the Avenues Walk Park-n-Ride Center providing significant connectivity to the transit services connecting to the station location. There is a new residential development adjacent to the Park-n-Ride Center and this connectivity allows people to walk up to the station.
The Avenues Mall
The Avenues Walk Station Area contains several regional retail locations and is currently experiencing new development. The Avenues Mall attraction is located in the northeastern station area (east of US 1) and a Walmart Super Center is located in the central west portion of the station area (west of US 1). US 1 travels north to south through the station area and the US 1 frontage contains significant commercial strip development. MAJOR CORRIDORS & CONNECTIONS The FEC rail corridor bisects the station area northwest to southeast, traveling adjacent to the Avenues Walk Mobility Hub and Park-n-Ride Center, and crossing under Avenues Walk Boulevard. US 1 is parallel to the east of the rail corridor providing access to Jacksonville to the north and St. Augustine to the South. Avenues Walk Boulevard and Southside Boulevard provide additional access to the station area connecting the retail spaces to US 1. I-95 travels along the westernmost portion of the station area and connects to US 1 in the northern portion of the station area. TRANSIT The southwestern quadrant of the station area is home to the Avenues Walk Mobility Hub and Park-n-Ride Center. The park-n-ride serves the First Coast Flyer/ Southeast BRT, Townsend/Southside/Avenues Mall and Philips Highway/Baymeadows/Avenues Mall routes and provides approximately 100 boardings for the route. The mobility hub and park-n-ride lot offers spaces for regional commuters to park and connect to Downtown Jacksonville using the First Coast Flyer Blue Line, and also provides bike racks and a full customer service area.
