OLD ST. AUGUSTINE

ATTRACTORS & NEIGHBORHOOD ACCESS

SIDEWALKS

The Old St. Augustine Station Area is predominately made up of single family detached housing as well as strip development serving local needs. Areas to the east feature larger single family lots with no existing sidewalk network. The northwest station area features newer housing stock, on smaller lots, with an extensive sidewalk network. The southwest station area and US 1 frontage contain various commercial strip development. The northeast quadrant contains a mix of multifamily residential, single family detached, and commercial uses. The Baptist Medical Center lies approximately one mile from the station center. MAJOR CORRIDORS & CONNECTIONS The FEC rail corridor bisects the station area northwest to southeast, crossing Old St Augustine Road at-grade at the intersection with US 1. US 1 travels parallel to the east of the FEC Rail corridor through the station area providing access to Jacksonville to the north and St. Augustine to the south. Access to I-95 can be reached from the station area via Old St. Augustine Road. SR 9B lies directly southeast of the station area. TRANSIT The station area contains JTA’s Philips Highway/ Gran Bay route, and two stops are located along Old St. Augustine Road and the Flagler Center business complex. These stops currently have low ridership. Sunshine Bus Transit’s Purple Route traverses the station area via US 1, but it does not currently have a transit stop within the station area.

The northbound US 1 features either a 10-foot or 5-foot sidewalk. While the older eastern residential areas lack sidewalk infrastructure, there are newer areas to the northeast that have significant residential sidewalk connectivity. West of US 1 features bi-directional 8-foot sidewalks along Old St. Augustine Road. These sidewalks connect to the neighborhood in the northwest station area. There are also sidewalks located to the southwest of the station area along Flagler Center Boulevard and Kenan Drive to access various businesses and a charter school. BIKE LANES & REGIONAL TRAILS US 1, within the station area, features bi-directional 5-foot bike lanes. Likewise, Old St. Augustine Road features bi-directional 5-foot bike lanes. OPPORTUNITIES FOR CONNECTIVITY The Old St. Augustine Station offers a mix of uses from residential to commercial businesses. The station area would benefit from filling in some gaps to the sidewalk and bike lane network to enhance multimodal connectivity and access from these uses to a potential station area. While transit service does travel through this station area, there is no transit circulation throughout the station area and some level of transit connectivity would be needed to support a commuter service station. As a likely origin station, it would be important to identify available surface parking lots near to the station location to provide park-n-ride opportunities to commuters, alongside the multimodal network to connect between parking and a potential station location.
