ATTRACTORS & NEIGHBORHOOD ACCESS
SIDEWALKS
Within a half mile of the Palencia Station Area lies four distinct land uses. Fronting both US 1 and the rail corridor is strip mall development featuring neighborhood and commercial uses. To the east of this development is multi-family housing and Palencia Elementary, both of which are accessible via Palencia Village Drive. The western station area includes undeveloped lands and heavy industrial land uses. MAJOR CORRIDORS & CONNECTIONS The FEC rail corridor bisects the station area northwest to southeast, crossing International Golf Parkway at- grade. US 1 is parallel to the FEC rail corridor through the station area and provides access to Jacksonville to the north and St. Augustine to the South. Additional regional roadway access to I-95 to the west (outside of the station area) is provided via International Golf Parkway. TRANSIT The Sunshine Bus Purple Route traverses the station area via US 1, however there is no transit stop currently located within this station area, nor is there any internal circulation within the station area.
The residential areas of the station area feature a connected sidewalk network connecting to US 1 and providing internal circulation within the commercial strip malls to the east. BIKE LANES & REGIONAL TRAILS A small segment of bike lanes exists on International Golf Parkway. There are no bicycle facilities or trails for a majority of US 1, but there are some north of International Golf Parkway approaching the intersection. The SR 207 to Ponte Vedra Trail is proposed in the Northeast Florida Regional Multi-use Trail Master Plan, which would travel north-south connecting Palatka to the St. Augustine Trail to Nocatee Trail to the East Coast Greenway. OPPORTUNITIES FOR CONNECTIVITY The residential areas of the station area feature a connected sidewalk network leading to US 1, with more mix of uses to connect to on the eastern side of US 1. There are currently no pedestrian safety features at the intersection of US 1 and Palencia Village Drive/ International Golf Parkway. Additional multimodal infrastructure would be needed in order to facilitate safe station area access, particularly since there is no transit connectivity within this station area. As a likely origin station, the Palencia Station Area would require some large surface lots to support auto-oriented commuter trips accessing a commuter rail service.
