salvation for those who will trust Christ. He then discusses all of the wonderful benefits of being justified by faith. It was the sin of Adam that caused sin to enter the human race. The result of course is both physical and spiritual death for all men, for that “all have sinned.’’ Just as spir itual death came through Adam’s offending, or sinning, so, in Christ, believers are given grace, the gift of righteousness, and reign in life. Those two words “much more” show the wonderful act of obedience. Where sin abounded, grace did much more abound. Adam did work ter rific havoc, but when the Lord Jesus did His work, He did things with infinite perfection. It is a much more or greater blessing. He puts to the credit side all of the infinite of deity. Q. Healdsburg, Calif. — “Can you ex plain Matthew 7:6 which says, ‘Give not that which is holy unto the clogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you’ ” ? A. Here dogs are a figure of speech for snarling haters of truth and righteousness. This is what's re ferred to here. Swine symbolize those who are impure, of course, incapable of appreciating the priceless jewels of eternal life. Such animals were both particularly repulsive to the Jews. In those days dogs roamed the streets, were not pets. Christian ity is thus brought into contempt when it is forced upon those who will not have it. Do not try to force it upon anyone. Keep in mind that it is not our responsibility to judge others in any sense. Do not be too quick to condemn someone else. Q. San Jose, Calif. — “Will you please explain the wave and the heave offer ing, spoken of in the Word of God?” A. These are referred to in the Pentateuch, and especially in the
book of Leviticus. Not having money, stock or bonds, the people of Israel would take the fruit of the ground as an offering to God. Wave meant it was to be moved in a horizontal fashion before the Lord. Those not so heavy were called heave offerings. They were actually lifted in a verti cal position. The two of them com bined are beautifully illustrative of the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ. Q. Washugal, Wash----- “Can a Chris tian feel a firm call to foreign mis sions? Would the door shut, and he still be in God’s perfect will at home serving his community church?” A. Yes, this could happen. We all, in a sense, have a call to the foreign field. We should be willing to go if the Lord opens the way. Biola has a lot of students who are wonder ing whether they should go to the foreign field or not. Sometimes we are stubborn and refuse to submit to God’s directive purpose. God calls very definitely to certain places here at home as well as in different places of the world. He will close doors and open others. To be willing is the main thing. Another problem is that today there are young people who are anxious to go to the field but there are not the finances available for them to go. Here at Biola, we have many more young people who are willing and from all indications, ca pable of going, but there just aren’t the funds to make it possible. This is a tragic situation, and one for which we all shall be held account able to God in our stewardship. Per haps God has called people to sup port missionaries just as definitely as He has asked the missionaries to go, and they have not been obedient, which causes this great lack. Giving, going and praying aré all equally important.
