Effective Therapy with sEMG Biofeedback Technology VitalStim® Plus neuromuscular electrical stimulation promotes the recovery and re-education of the muscles involved in the swallowing process. Under the guidance of a clinician, patients undergo interactive therapy that supports muscle strengthening to restore swallowing function. The interactive therapy provides patients with visual and auditory feedback to optimize their efforts during swallowing exercises. Programs are either pre-set or customized, allowing for true personalization of treatment.

Patient Data Treatment data can be stored, viewed, or exported to a computer to track patient progress and generate reports. VitalStim® Plus Treatment VitalStim® Plus features a “Co-contraction” function that allows four separate channels to deliver stimulation simultaneously. sEMG Treatment The electrical signals returned from the muscle are measured and displayed on a screen, then converted into sounds audible to the patient. This feedback encourages patient engagement and participation, while providing the clinician with the data and documentation needed to measure results and quantify progress.

VMS Treatment The treatment protocol can be customized by adjusting the parameters for Duration, Frequency, Work Time, and Rest Time. VMS treatment offers even greater flexibility by allowing the sequencing of stimulation across the four channels to closely mimic natural swallowing. sEMG-Triggered Stimulation The patient begins the swallowing exercises assisted by sEMG biofeedback. Once the preset threshold is reached, VitalStim® Plus increases the stimulation mode to enhance the effort and intensity of the exercise.
