A fter having her first child in 2016, Christine Guenther craved a flexible job where she could still work without sacrificing time with her family. Thus, WildFlower Stem + Sundry was born. Guenther’s vision for the floral business she purchased was for it to be more than a typical florist shop, and this was further amplified in 2020 after moving to their current location at Cromwell Business Park in Glen Burnie, Maryland.
“Instead of just being this tiny, tucked away florist, now our business — being in a Class ‘A’ retail center — is on full display [as] a retail destination, and more than just a florist.” The store includes a large selection of house plants and plant care products. They employ plant experts who can help customers choose the perfect plants for their homes, business, or special events. Their Cromwell Business Park location features large windows on both the front and back of the building, which initially attracted Guenther to the space. The natural light helps their plants thrive, and the windows boost the store’s visibility to customers. The front of the shop faces the road and is visible from the highway, while the rear faces a Starbucks drive-thru line, which gets consistent traffic. The 4,000-square-foot shop features high ceilings to draw customers into the open and airy space. Visiting the shop is an immersive experience that appeals to all of the senses — featuring
gorgeous blooms, cool tunes, amazing scents, tactile offerings and an open concept that lends perfectly to interaction with the team. The Stem Bar is an area of the store that displays a variety of fresh-cut flowers meant to inspire and encourage creativity. Customers can work with talented designers at each location to customize their own floral arrangements. Thirty-two employees work across WildFlower’s three locations, with Cromwell Business Park serving as the main hub and design center. One-third of the team works in floral design, processing and plant care. Another third works in customer service, and the remaining third handle delivery and dispatch. WildFlower has a fleet of seven vehicles, as they’re on the road seven days a week delivering high-quality, fresh flowers and plants to residences, funeral homes, hotels, event venues, and restaurants. Guenther worked closely with St. John Properties’ in-house design and
construction teams to address their extensive refrigeration needs. Guenther also praised St. John Properties’ property maintenance team, sharing that in the event of snow or ice, St. John Properties is there right away to ensure WildFlower staff and customers have easy access to the shop. Having a company who cares so diligently for their tenants has helped Guenther run her business smoothly.
“I definitely feel the partnership with St. John
Properties and our property manager, Ali. We can make contact with her on the phone any time of the day, and all of our needs are immediately taken care of.”
