HMRC SINGLE BANK ACCOUNT FROM APRIL 2013

As from April 2013 employers will be required to make payments to HMRC Cumbernauld Accounts Office only.

HMRC has confirmed that Employers who make a payment to HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) by:

 Bacs Direct Credit  Faster Payments by online/telephone banking  CHAPS From month one of the 2013-14 tax year payments should be made to the Accounts Office Cumbernauld account.

HMRC has started to send employers information about this change ready for 2013-14.

If this necessitates a change for you and where this data is usually embedded within your payment or payroll software you will need to contact your software supplier about obtaining and upgrade.

NO LONGER SELF EMPLOYED? DON’T FORGET TO TELL HMRC

HMRC has an online system which can now be used to notify them that an individual is no longer self employed.

You'll need to provide your: • email address • name • date of birth

• home or business address • daytime telephone number

Depending on your circumstances you'll also need your: • Ten-digit Unique Taxpayer Reference number if you have previously completed a Self Assessment return. You’ll find this on letters or forms sent by HMRC about your tax return • National Insurance number As well as telling HMRC you've stopped trading, you’ll also need to complete your tax return ensuring that you enter the date you stopped being self-employed in the self-employment section.

If you are registered for VAT, an employer or CIS contractor, or a CIS subcontractor you'll also need to tell HMRC separately and guidance is available for each of these situations.

ESC CONCESSION A19 REVIEW - SUMMARY OF RESPONSES

HMRC has published a summary of responses submitted during the consultation, carried out between 3 July – 24 September 2012, which looked to gain views on the proposed revised version of ESC A19.

In summary, HMRC has recognised that whilst the proposed changes to ESC A19 looked to bring about both clarity and objectivity, responses received during the consultation suggest
