Entitlement to unpaid parental leave extends from 13 weeks to 18 weeks on Friday 8 March 2013.

Current guidance on the subject of Parental Leave is available at the Gov.uk website, however as a summary reminder, the right to parental leave, (which remains unpaid), will be as follows:

 For parents of children - up to the child’s 5 th birthday the right to leave will increase from 13 to 18 weeks.

 For parents of each adopted child - up to the child’s 18 th birthday or the 5 th anniversary of adoption (whichever happens first) entitlement is also increasing from 13 weeks to 18 weeks.

 For parents of children who qualify for Disability Living Allowance, 18 weeks up to their 18 th birthday.

This change follows a delay of one year to allow the government to continue with development of the Modern Workplaces Policy.

CIPP RESPONSE TO CONSULTATION ON SHARED PARENTAL LEAVE

10 May 2013

The CIPP has today responded to the Department for Business Innovation and Skills’ consultation on the administration of Shared Parental Leave.

The CIPP’s Policy and Research Team would like to thank all those members who managed to find time out of their busy schedules to complete the recent survey.

What has emerged very strongly is that whilst our members recognise and appreciate the need for flexibility for working parents, there is no getting away from the fact that these new proposals do introduce a significant increase to complexity and therefore will result in an increased administrative burden to the employer.

ADDITIONAL PATERNITY LEAVE TAKEN UP BY LESS THAN 1 PER CENT

19 June 2013

To encourage more dads to take time off in the first year of their child’s life, the TUC is calling on the government to increase the statutory rate of pay to 90 per cent of average earnings, and up initial paternity leave from two to six weeks. According to a new analysis published by the TUC, only 1 in 172 fathers are taking advantage of additional paternity leave (APL) and say that it is due to the statutory rate of pay for APL only being £136.78 a week which is rarely topped up by employers.
