There have been a couple of small amendments made to guidance and both the HR and Payroll Guides and PDFs tracking the changes made can be found HR version 2.2 and Payroll version 2.2 respectively. “The main substantive change made to the guides is with respect of existing pre-April 2014 AVC contracts. Our [LGA] understanding, based on the draft LGPS (Transitional Provisions and Savings) Regulations 2013, is that contributions towards AVC contracts entered into prior to 1st April 2014 will be limited to 50% of the 2008 Scheme definition of pensionable pay. This is by contrast with AVC contracts entered into on or after this date, where the percentage of pensionable pay a member can contribute is not limited.
Web versions of the updated guides are in the process of being produced, and a further email will be sent out later this month to confirm their availability on www.lgpsregs.org .”
Consultation on the regulations to introduce a new firefighters’ pension scheme from April 2015

The government has published a consultation on the regulations to introduce a new firefighters pension scheme.
This consultation seeks responses from interested parties on draft regulations for the new firefighters’ pension scheme to come into force in April 2015. This consultation covers the provisions relating to membership and benefits in the new scheme and will run until 12 March 2014.
Further consultation exercises covering the financing and governance arrangements of the new scheme, and employee contributions, will follow shortly.
