“We secure federal and state grants to fund these initiatives and ensure Osceola is in the best position to recover quickly when disaster strikes.” A major priority is flood mitigation, particularly in areas impacted by Hurricane Ian. “We are working on multiple projects to strengthen flood-prone areas,” says Litton. “While the hurricane was considered a 500- year flood event, we are taking steps now to ensure we are prepared for the next major weather event.” Preserving the Beauty of Osceola County Beyond its reputation as a tourist destination, Osceola County is home to thriving agricultural and ecotourism industries. “We still have a strong agricultural foundation and agritourism remains a big part of our identity,” says Litton. “Places like Wild Florida offer visitors a chance to experience what we call the ‘true Florida’— the untouched natural landscapes that still exist outside of our urban developments.” Osceola County is a breathtaking region where vast stretches of wetlands, scenic prairies, and pristine lakes paint an awe- inspiring landscape. Towering cypress trees stand tall along the Kissimmee Chain of Lakes, their reflections rippling over waters teeming with native wildlife.
