“We’re also home to a couple of annual tradeshows, multiple Atlantic Canadian and Provincial cheerleading competitions, and local graduation ceremonies every year. We find that people don’t just come to the RECC once for an event; it becomes the event’s home, or at least a whistle stop on a tour,”
Matt explained. “The event owners and rights holders are always universally impressed.”
Nick recalled a recent visit to the RECC by a representa- tive from Hockey Canada. “It was a site visit to Truro for the upcoming World Junior A Challenge. One of the managers walked into the arena with me, looked up and around and said, “Wow, this is a nice arena.” People don’t expect that when they come to rural communities like Truro. Those moments remind me what a truly great asset we have here.” For Matt, the world class-standing of the RECC is unques- tionable, but there’s still something more to its early and mounting achievements. “There’s no doubt, our geograph- ic location is centralized within Atlantic Canada, however, I feel that the greatest key to our success has been Nick and the team’s ability to build positive relationships with a wide variety event owners and rights holders. It’s one thing to have this incredible asset in the advantageous real estate it’s in, but it’s another to fully maximize our potential through development of positive business relationships. That is what I feel is the most appreciated by our stakeholders and what keeps them coming back to do business with us.” This fall, the RECC has a number of arena events on the books, including a concert featuring platinum- selling Canadian country music star Dallas Smith on October 13 as part of his Side Effects tour. The concert will also feature the up-and- coming country music band Cold Creek County as special guests.

And the always-popular interactive stage show the Price is Right Live! is set to take over the RECC on October 27. “When event owners and rights holders and promoters look at our catchment, the successes we’ve been having, our facilities, accommodations, and amenities, with the close proximity to an international airport, they see the value and potential in Truro.” The 13-game World Junior A Challenge will take over Truro and Colchester County from December 10 to 16 and will feature premier squads from Canada East, Canada West, USA, Russia, the Czech Republic, and Swit- zerland. The Down Syndrome World Swimming Championships, which takes place July 2018 in the Wilsons Aquatic Centre where an 8-lane, 25-metre competitive pool awaits the athletes, will feature over 200 participants from over 25 countries competing for medals. This will mark the first time in history this event has been hosted in Canada.
