The George Olasin award is given to a member of the Southern New Jersey Chapter of the Appraisal Institute who has given years of dedicated service to the chapter and exhibited a high standard of ethics and professionalism in their appraisal practice. This award is named after George Olasin, 1962 Chapter President, who passed away in February 2011. The George Olasin award for 2016 is being awarded to Timothy W. Sheehan, MAI, SRA. This prestigious honor will be recognized at the next chapter meeting: January 19th at the Adelphia in Deptford. Tim obtained a bachelor’s degree in Finance &Accounting fromRowan University (formerly Glassboro State) and then worked for his father-in-law, Richard S. Sheldon Inc., from 1986 to 1995, focusing on complex commercial and residential assignments throughout South Jersey. He then worked for the Reaves C. Lukens Company in Center City Philadelphia from 1995 to 2004, and was promoted to Vice-President in 1999. The work focused mainly on commercial assignments, including the property acquisitions for the new Phillies and Eagles Stadiums and expansion of the Convention Center, as well as Philadelphia International Airport. In 2004, he started his own firm, T.W. Sheehan & Associates, based in Cherry Hill and Haddon Heights NJ, where he focuses primarily on commercial appraisals, including assignments for a number of counties, municipalities, government agencies, lenders and private concerns. He also is a Review Appraiser for the NJ Department of Agriculture and NJDEP/Green Acres Program. Tim was awarded the SRA designation in 1991 and the MAI designation in 1999. He became a Certified Tax Assessor in 1995. He is a State Certified General Real Estate Ap- praiser in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. He has been an active member of the Southern New Jersey Chapter since the late 1980s, chairing various committees including Education, Admissions, Long Range Planning, Expe- rience Review, etc. He served as Board Director from 1992-1995 and 2012-2015, Secretary in 1996, Treasurer in 1997, Second Vice-President in 1998, First Vice-President in 1999 and President in 2000. He served as the chapter’s Regional Representative or Alternate Regional Representative from 2001-2016. He served the Appraisal Institute nationally as the Regional Member of the Ethics Admin- istration Division from 2001-2003 and 2006-2012. He served as Vice-Chair of the Chapter Services Committee from 2001-2003, and moderated the Presidential Leadership Confer- ence in Chicago. He also served on the Seminars Subcommittee from 2004-2006. Tim and his wife, Kate, have been married for almost 31 years. They have three children, Jessica (Princeton University) and recently married Michael (St. Joseph’s University) and Ryan (Immaculata University). They reside in Haddon Heights, NJ.
