CIPP comment Much work is being carried out at the moment across Government and involving a range of stakeholders, amongst which the CIPP policy team and CIPP members are involved. Deliberate failure to pay the minimum wage to employees cannot be condoned however the reasons that an employer may fail to pay the minimum wage are many and varied and much can be done by BEIS and HMRC to improve the educational opportunities from the information provided through the name and shame publicity to provide us all with the opportunity learn, not only from our own mistakes, but also from those of others.

Talking Points this week: NMW and tax avoidance cycle 19 September 2017
A reminder that HMRC are holding two Talking Points meetings this week; one on the national minimum wage and common errors and the tax avoidance cycle and how to get out of it.

Low Pay Commission report on non-compliance and enforcement of the National Minimum Wage 19 September 2017
One of the recommendations from the LPC is to add a ‘tick box’ declaration to payroll software whereby the employer is asked to confirm that all of their staff are paid at the correct minimum wage level.
The Low Pay Commission (LPC) has published a new report which considers the scale and nature of non-compliance with the National Minimum Wage (NMW) and National Living Wage (NLW).
