Grain Mills, near Dourum, Cameroon
The women in the village have a hard life, they wake at 5 a.m. to sweep the house and yard, they have to fetch water, wash dishes, crush millet by hand between the two stones to make porridge in the morning and prepare the meal at noon for the children who come back from school. Crushing cereals is painful and yields only small quantities of flour. The process has to be repeated in the evening after a day working in the fields. The alternative is for the women to walk 7 km to reach the centre of Dourum where there is a grain mill. The provision of the first mill was so successful that a second one was requested. These now help to relieve the women of the painful and time-consuming process of making flour.
Two new classrooms at Koza school, North Cameroon
The terrorist activities of Boko Haram have led to a large number of displaced refugees in North Cameroon. There are an increasing number of orphans and refugee children that need education. By the construction and equipment of two primary classrooms at our existing college in Koza, 120 places will be added for refugee children, who would otherwise receive no education at all.
And finally …
Fr Adrian Cadwallader’s generosity in funding the girls’ dormitory (which is still under construction) in Domiongo was mentioned in last year’s newsletter. His estate has again contributed a significant amount of money to SJAA. SJAA and its beneficiaries are indebted to his generosity. Please remember every donation , no matter how small is valuable, money goes a long way in Africa. Donations can be sent by post to SJAA at SJAA, Acorn Cottage, 74 Byfleet Road, New Haw, Addlestone, Surrey KT15 3LB. Donations can also be made online on the SJAA Website through Paypal.
