SOMERS SEASON Publishing his first book at 74, Cliff Somers reflects on how his love for writing at an early age was realized later in life through expressing his strong views with words. by RYAN KARL TALLO
OMETIMES WE FEEL like life is moving too fast—that what we once wanted or who we once aspired to be is long young age of 7, Cliff Somers found love in writing. And at the age of 8, he wrote his first short story and S gone. When life gets in the way, we sometimes get derailed, we lose focus of the now and get anxious of what is to come. And sometimes, we feel like it’s too late to do what we’ve always wanted to do. Being an avid reader at the
train that will rush him immediately to his dream of being a published author, Cliff walked slowly and carefully into that ambition. To keep the flame burning all those years in the in-between, he wrote several professional articles during his law practice. In 2015, after retiring, he wrote his first book “Is He or Isn’t He: A Response to God’s Not Dead” in 6 months when he was 74. His opposition to creationism and the dogma of theistic religion for a long time drove him to debunk
since then, he has always known that he wanted to write books. Like most who majored in English in undergraduate school, he also thought that someday, he will write the great American novel. As Cliff claimed, life got in the way. However, he is anything but demotivated. His drive to pursue his dreams when he was younger rekindled after his retirement. As he says, when you ‘really wanted it bad enough’, it will happen despite the odds. Despite not getting into the
