DESIGN SOFTWARE
GRANT HAS STRENGTHENED ITS SUPPORT FOR THE INDUSTRY BY INVESTING IN ADVANCED DIGITAL DESIGN SOFTWARE TO ENHANCE ITS FREE HEATING DESIGN & SPECIFICATION SERVICE… Smart design for high-performance homes
Delivering a high-performance heating system begins well before first fix, starting with getting the design right. For plumbing and heating engineers working on modern new-build homes, accurate heating system specification is essential not only for comfort and compliance, but for ensuring systems install smoothly and perform as expected once commissioned. Long established as a leader in the home heating sector, Grant has further strengthened its support for the plumbing and heating industry by investing in advanced digital design software to enhance its free-of-charge Heating Design & Specification Service. The upgraded service helps installers and contractors benefit from clearer system layouts, faster design turnaround and fewer on-site surprises. Grant’s in-house design and specification service has been widely used across the industry for many years, valued for its detailed heat loss calculations, technical accuracy and practical, installer-friendly approach. The introduction of upgraded software builds on this foundation, enabling the Grant technical team to work more efficiently, respond faster to design enquiries and deliver clearer, more detailed design outputs that support efficient installation on site. Using the enhanced digital platform, Grant’s technical specialists continue to carry out in-depth room-by-room heat-loss calculations, detailed sizing for radiators or underfloor heating and full pipework circuit layouts. Annotated schematics, underfloor heating layouts, pipe circuits and material schedules provide design teams and contractors with a complete heating system specification that can be reviewed and integrated early in the project workflow. Automated calculation workflows also reduce design time to help support accurate first-fix installation while improving communication between design and site teams. The calculation engine produces consistent, independently-verified

outputs, giving heating engineers added confidence that system sizing and performance assumptions align with industry standards. Embedded manufacturer data ensures that heat outputs reflect real operating conditions rather than generic assumptions. The upgraded workflow introduces features particularly valuable on these projects. These include optimised hydronic system layouts, with automatic pipe sizing with flow-rate and pressure- drop calculations and built-in system balancing. In line with Grant’s established approach, the enhanced service continues to support compliance requirements. This includes the production of S.R. 50/ MCS compliant heat-loss documentation and ensures each bespoke heating system is designed to help meet relevant building regulations compliance and NZEB performance requirements, reducing design risk and minimising late-stage revisions. The new digital workflow further strengthens Grant’s integrated design approach, with the award-winning Aerona R290 air-to-water heat pump remaining central to new-build specifications. Designed specifically for
the Irish and UK climate, the Aerona R290 uses natural refrigerant R290, which has a Global Warming Potential (GWP) of only 3, supporting long-term decarbonisation goals. With outputs ranging from 4kW- 16kW, the Aerona R290 range offers flexibility across a wide range of property types. By combining digital efficiency with decades of technical expertise, Grant’s free Heating Design & Specification Service continues to provide practical, real-world support to the Irish construction industry, helping to deliver comfortable, compliant, future-ready homes. Contractors can avail of Grant’s Heating Design and Specification Service by sending house plans to heatpump@grant.ie or heatpump@grantni.com
