Warmflow recently visited Castle Ward, an 18th-century National Trust estate near Strangford Lough, Co Down, where Technical Sales Manager Michael McGirr led the assisted set-up of a new Zeno R290 Air Source Heat Pump. The installation took place in the estate’s charming Gamekeeper’s Lodge, an historic cottage offering a unique blend of heritage and countryside tranquillity. Castle Ward & the Gamekeeper’s Lodge: A blend of history, nature & comfort Castle Ward stands out among historic houses for its intriguing contrast in architectural styles. Built in the 1760s for Bernard Ward, 1st Viscount Bangor, and his wife, the mansion features a classical Palladian façade on one side and Gothic-inspired Georgian design on the other, reflecting the differing tastes of the couple. Nestled within this storied estate, the Gamekeeper’s Lodge is a Victorian-era cottage surrounded by meadow and woodland. It’s quietly tucked away, with distinctive stone detailing, a sun-catching porch and original interior features such as ornamental brass gas lamps and even the gamekeeper’s old gun cupboard. The Lodge combines Victorian heritage living with 21st-century sustainable technology.
