SUPPORT EACH OTHER… Connecting the plumbing & heating trade
A new network has been created to offer support, knowledge transfer and networking opportunities for the plumbing and heating trade. Launched by award-winning plumber Jamie Bermingham in February, the trade-only network invites plumbers to connect through a WhatsApp group, supported by LinkedIn and Instagram pages, and has already attracted more than 70 members through word of mouth. “TradeKonnect was created to address a common issue I’ve seen throughout my time in the trade: skilled tradespeople often working in isolation, under pressure and without quick access to reliable support when problems arise on site,” says Jamie. “The idea behind TradeKonnect is simple, to create a professional, trade-only network where plumbing and heating engineers can connect, share real-world knowledge, support apprentices and help each other with faults, materials, workload and technical challenges. “By strengthening support within the trade, the ultimate goal is to improve standards and deliver a better experience for customers. Engagement has been very positive, which shows there is a real appetite for a structured,
respectful space focused on collaboration rather than promotion.” Alongside day-to-day support, the network offers showcases such as Apprentice Spotlights, Feature of the Week, Tool of the Week and Fault of the Week, all aimed at recognising quality workmanship, encouraging learning and supporting the next generation coming through the trade. A WorldSkills Plumbing & Heating Ireland winner in 2022, Jamie was also named both Generation Apprenticeship – Apprentice of the Year and Rising Star at Ireland’s Plumbing & Heating Awards in 2023. He has advocated for apprentices in the Houses of the Oireachtas and Heroes Stage at WorldSkills 2023 and featured on the cover of Ireland’s Plumbing & Heating Magazine alongside Instantor’s new crimp gun. Jamie’s long-term ambition for TradeKonnect is to roll out the network in a controlled way across trades and regions, while staying true to its core values of professionalism, knowledge sharing and mutual support. “TradeKonnect is about strengthening the trade from within, supporting tradespeople so they can deliver better outcomes on site and for customers,” says Jamie.
