PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE | Continued
As we have covered before, we fund the Club with dues and usage fees. We have chosen not to open the Club to lots of events (which close at least one of our golf courses to member play) and outside affairs like weddings (which create their own set of challenges for the membership). I for one have no interest in changing that philosophy and it seems that almost all of you agree. That means that we the members need to foot the bill for everything we have. If we want to pay less in dues and usage fees, we need to make tough choices on what we eliminate from our membership experience. I can tell you that I have never heard a single member identify anything that we should part with in order to lower our dues. This Club is spectacular. We have what very few other clubs have. The scope and quality of our amenities, our staff, our dining options, our golf courses, our racquets facilities, our junior programs just don’t exist at other clubs. None of it comes for free. But we will not eliminate or compromise on any of it. Thanks so much for your enthusiasm for and love of our Club. And thanks for supporting our staff and leadership team. I close with a contest for you. The first three members who correctly answer the following question win a beverage in the Pub at my expense. (Those of you who are disqualified know who you are, but I’ll probably buy you a drink anyway.) The question: Name the member of our staff whose grandfather scored the first touchdown in Miami Dolphins history. Email your answers and anything else that is on your mind to dwilks.wcc@gmail.com.
