GWO Slinger Signaller V2.0
2021-04-01_TS_SLS_V2
Facilitate a discussion on what the hazards and risks are with failing to use hand or radio signals correctly
Recap the signals package (Annex 1)
Explain that the person giving the signals must face the crane driver to ensure that the meaning of the signal given is clear to the crane driver Demonstrate the practical application of the signal package, one signal at the time Alternative activity: Have one participant at a time demonstrate one signal and another participant explain the meaning
Demonstrate how to accurately direct the crane using all relevant hand and radio signals available
Facilitate a group discussion on the risks on the crane being navigated using more than one slinger signaller Provide constructive feedback on the participants ’ ability to direct the crane using all relevant hand signals and on the participants’ initiative and individual taking responsibility for the slinging operation
The participants shall:
Engage in group discussion on using more than one slinger signaller
Practice the ability to accurately direct the crane using all relevant hand signals available in different lifting scenarios, that combined will use all of the different hand signals
Receive feedback on slinging constructively
Note: Each participant must correctly demonstrate usage of hand/radio guided signals in three different lifting scenarios, – e.g. open lift, restricted lift, blind lift, radio-guided lift
SLINGING TECHNIQUES
Learning objective:
The participants can on their own take responsibility for applying different slinging techniques relevant to different types of loads (Ability, intermediate level)
The instructor shall:
Recap the hazards and risks when slinging (slips, trips, falls and pinch point) and involve participants by prompting them to share knowledge and experiences on hazards and risks when slinging Explain and demonstrate the importance of using the proper slinging techniques to ensure continued safe sling capacity
Demonstrate how to match slings and hook e.g. ramshorn, single hook and safety hooks
Demonstrate sling protection against sharp edges
Demonstrate chain slings (shortening clutches), synthetic slings and wire slings
