Brain awareness: Educate, Support and Live
Raskob-Paulus Caregiver Skills Lab
As we age, there are certain topics, which people tend to avoid talking about sometimes due to fear and potentially lack of knowledge. Words such as dementia, cognitive decline, forgetfulness, and Alzheimer’s create a notion of panic and fright. Over the years, studies and associations like Alzheimer’s Association have worked to educate and change misconceptions. Many tools and resources have been created, such as memory screenings, memory cafes, trainings, and family support groups to assist those who are needing support. Receiving a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s or dementia impacts not only the individual but the entire family. Nonetheless, brain awareness has helped individuals process and provide people with resources they might not have known existed. Some resources include trainings, support groups and in-home care. If a loved one has been diagnosed with a neurodegenerative brain disease and
as a family caregiver, you don’t have the skill set or feel prepared, there are trainings to help. There are also support groups to help prevent caregiver burnout which tends to be overlooked until a situation arises where the caregiver feels overwhelmed and incapable of providing care. Aging in place appears to be in higher demand than choosing to move into a long-term care facility. People are choosing to age in place and that can sometimes be frightening for family members if their loved one has been diagnosed with a neurodegenerative brain disease. There are agencies that provide in-home care, like PimaCare at Home, who, in addition to family, can staff caregivers to provide care and allow their loved ones at home to age in place safely. If you or your loved have questions about caregiver trainings or in home care contact PimaCare at Home for a free in home assessment. (520) 305-3445
PimaCare at Home provides caregivers with training in our Raskob-Paulus Caregiver Skills Lab . Many times, people receive training in settings that do not resemble the actual work environment. Our skills lab is designed as a realistic home setting, providing a hands-on learning opportunity representative of what people may experience in their own homes. It is equipped with durable medical equipment (DME) and adaptive devices that can help people restore their independence, live with dignity, and remain safely in the comfort of their home. Using this skills lab and classroom, we provide caregivers with the highest quality of hands-on skills training combined with extensive caregiving knowledge, establishing a strong foundation for success for both the caregiver, their loved ones, and/or their future clients.
