Leading by Example Everyday Choices That Inspire Change
Leadership comes in all shapes and sizes. You don’t need a fancy title or a corner office to be a leader. Whether managing a team, guiding your family, or navigating your goals, leadership is about showing up, setting an example, and making choices that inspire others. With National Leadership Day on Feb. 20, now’s the perfect time to reflect on what it means to lead. But here’s the thing: It’s not about being perfect or having all the answers. It’s about being intentional, empathetic, and willing to learn from the inevitable ups and downs. When I think about leadership, my mind goes to my role with my team. For me, leading starts with setting an example. If I recommend something to a client — like creating an estate plan or setting up an LLC — I make sure I’ve done it myself. After all, how can I expect my team or clients to trust me if I’m not practicing what I preach?
A good leader also offers support. I constantly ask my team, What do you need to succeed? Whether it’s better tools, additional training, or even just a little encouragement, my goal is to make their jobs easier. When something goes wrong, I resist the urge to point fingers. Instead, I reflect on how I could have prevented the problem and what we can do together to ensure it doesn’t happen again. Leadership doesn’t stop when the workday ends. As parents, mentors, and community members, we’re constantly in positions to lead. For parents, one of the most impactful ways to influence others is by setting an example for your kids. Something as practical as creating an estate plan teaches your children the value of responsibility and planning. When you get your affairs in order, you send a powerful message: This is how we prepare for the future. This is how we take care of the people we love. So, what does it take to be a great leader? While there’s no one-size-fits-all answer, here are five traits I strive for: EMPATHY: Understanding where people are coming from builds trust and connection. ACCOUNTABILITY: Owning your mistakes and learning from them shows integrity.
VISION: Knowing where you’re headed inspires others to follow. SUPPORTIVENESS: Helping others reach their goals strengthens the entire team. ADAPTABILITY: Leadership isn’t about being perfect — it’s about learning and improving as you go. The beauty of leadership is that others end up carrying it out, too. When you lead with intention, you inspire others to do the same. Take a moment to think about how you lead in your own life this National Leadership Day. Are you showing up for your team? Supporting your family? Setting an example for those around you? Whatever your role, remember that leadership is more than just grand gestures. It’s about the small, everyday choices that make a lasting impact.

Here’s to the leaders in all of us!

From natural disasters to liability issues arising on those properties, the right insurance can protect your financial future. Do you have the right coverages to protect your California properties? GENERAL LIABILITY INSURANCE General liability insurance protects against common risks, such as injuries to third parties or damage to someone else’s property. This is crucial in a state like California, where lawsuits are common! EARTHQUAKE INSURANCE California’s geography means a high risk for earthquakes, making earthquake insurance a necessary component of property protection. While property insurance typically covers general damages, it often excludes earthquake damage. Earthquake insurance covers rebuilding or repairing your property after an earthquake. It also includes coverage for personal belongings and temporary housing costs if your home becomes uninhabitable. Consider similar policies for other natural disasters not always covered under blanket insurance policies, such as flood, fire, and hazard insurance. UMBRELLA INSURANCE Umbrella insurance provides additional liability coverage that extends beyond the limits of your existing policies. This is especially important in California, where high-value properties are common, and a standard liability policy may not be sufficient. Umbrella insurance kicks in once your general liability or property insurance reaches its limit, offering extended coverage
in the event of a lawsuit or other liability claim. ADDITIONAL INSURANCE TYPES TO CONSIDER Various types of insurance can protect your property and business in California, and the following are worth briefly mentioning: • Workers’ Compensation Insurance: Covers medical expenses and lost wages for injured employees while working on your property. This insurance is required by law if you employ individuals to maintain or manage your California investment properties.
JOHN F. KENNEDY
JFK was independently wealthy and chose to donate his $100,000 annual salary as president to various charities.
• Loss of Income
Insurance: Protects property owners from
financial loss if their property becomes uninhabitable due to a covered event. It ensures rental income is replaced when repairs are being made. • Business Interruption Insurance: Provides coverage for lost income and operational expenses if the business is temporarily closed due to a covered event. • Key Person Insurance: Covers the business in the event of the death or incapacitation of a key employee. • Employment Practices Liability Insurance (EPLI):

How the Texas Court Ruling Affects Businesses Corporate Transparency Act on Hold
Garland , the plaintiffs argued that the CTA exceeds Congress’ constitutional authority under the Commerce Clause. The reporting requirements under the CTA were found to be unconstitutional, and it was concluded that the Act improperly imposes information disclosure requirements unrelated to regulating commerce, even if anonymous corporate activity could fall under Congress’ purview. For business owners, this ruling creates uncertainty for CTA requirements. With the Jan. 1, 2025, deadline for BOI reporting requirements now in effect, companies that were preparing to file (or that have already filed) and have paid legal fees to do so may feel like the rug was pulled out from under them. WHAT THIS MEANS FOR YOUR BUSINESS
In yet another twist for the implementation of the Corporate Transparency Act (CTA), a federal court in Texas issued a preliminary nationwide injunction blocking the law. This halts the implementation of the entire CTA, including the new Beneficial Ownership Information (BOI) reporting requirements set to take effect at the beginning of January 2025. The Treasury Department’s Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) announced the CTA as part of an ongoing effort to combat financial crimes. This breaking development has created uncertainty for businesses nationwide, with compliance deadlines in limbo and potential appeals looming. TEXAS TOP COP SHOP, INC. V. GARLAND The decision stems from a lawsuit filed by Texas Top Cop Shop, Inc., a family- run firearms retailer, alongside other businesses and the Libertarian Party of Mississippi. injunction or at least lessening its scope. For now, businesses that have either already filed or are preparing to file should remain on the lookout for additional news. We advise that all business owners remain vigilant and in touch with their attorneys. The CTA’s goals, while currently halted, reflect ongoing government interest in combatting financial crimes through increased transparency. Even with this ruling, the need for thoughtful recordkeeping and compliance measures has not disappeared. Make heart-shaped pancakes for breakfast, or bake sugar cookies and allow everyone to decorate their treats with sprinkles and frosting. You can even bake a red velvet cake or another Valentine’s favorite if you feel adventurous. GIVE GIFTS TO EACH OTHER. While Christmas and birthdays are often associated with gift- giving, you can also give your kids and spouse special gifts on Valentine’s Day to brighten their mood and ensure they feel loved. Flowers, stuffed animals, and chocolates are the go-to Valentine’s gifts, but you don’t necessarily have to stick to the script. Your family will be thrilled by any gifts they receive!
Valentine’s Day can be a difficult holiday for many parents. While they’d love to go out for a romantic dinner and enjoy a date night with their spouse, they have to think about the kids, too! You can find plenty to do to ensure your Valentine’s Day is fun and exciting for every family member. Here are three activities to try that will help make Valentine’s Day memorable. WRITE LOVE LETTERS. Valentine’s Day is a holiday all about love and romance, making it the perfect time for your family to share what they love about each other. It’s a great way to spread joy and show everyone how loved they are.
