He attended Tuskegee Institute 1964 to 1968 earn- ing a BS Degree in Physical Education and lettered in swimming and football. He completed Advanced ROTC and was commissioned Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army in July 1968. Upon graduating, he was hired by Tuskegee Institute and served one year as Head Swimming Coach, Physical Education Instructor and Assistant Special Teams Football Coach. He entered active duty at Ft. Eustis VA, 1969 and was promoted to First Lieutenant in 1970 during Rotary Wing Flight School at Ft. Rucker, AL. He was promoted to Captain in 1971 while serving in the Republic of South Viet Nam. He was a test pilot and flew over 300 combat support missions in the CH- 47B Chinook and UH-1D Iroquois helicopters. After returning stateside and serving 3 ½ years at Sacramento Army Depot, CA, he left active duty to become a civilian pilot for Chevron Oil Company in New Orleans in 1975 to 1977. His Louisiana National Guard career also began in 1975. He was promoted to Major in 1978, Lieutenant Colonel in 1991 and Colonel in 1996. His duties in the Guard in- cluded many positions cul-

minating with performing as Louisiana’s first African American Major Command (MACOM) Commander. He served 3 years as Com- mander of 204 th Air Traffic Services Group (ATSG) and retiring in 2001 after thirty- three years of dedicated service. COL Sullins’ mili- tary awards and decorations include: the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, Legion of Merit Medal, 13 Air Medals, National Defense Ribbon, RVN Campaign Medal, 4 Army Commendation Medals, Viet Nam Service Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, 4 Army Reserve Components Achievement Medals, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, three Louisiana Commendation Medals, Louisiana Longevity Ribbon with three Fleur-de-lis and the Master Army Aviator Badge. Transport Ratings (ATP) in Multi-Engine Land (MEL) airplanes and helicopters with CH-47B and UH-1 type ratings, Commercial Pilot Singl Engine Land (SEL) and Single Sngine Seaplane (SES). He retired from X-Chem, Inc. in 2016 after 33 years as Pilot/ Oil Field Chemical Sales Engineer with the last three years as Corporate Relations Representative. 1995. He was elected Vice Chairman of Friends of Tuskegee Airmen National Historic Site, Inc. Museum at Moton Field in 2008 and assumed Chairman of the Board in 2009 which he serves currently which works to preserve the Tuskegee Airmen legacy. Brother Col. Sullins was elected President of Black Pilots of America, Inc. (BPA) in 2005 and held that position until January 2011. He served seven years as

Treasurer of BPA prior to being elected President. He currently serves as Treasurer of New Orleans Golden Eagles Chapter of BPA. Brother Sullins is married to Esperanza Kennedy Sullins, former 1969 Morehouse (Pi Chapter) Sweetheart and is the proud owner of a Piper Comanche 260B airplane which he refers to as his “Kappa Wings.”
